I am searching for a hardware/software for playing divx and mpeg movies in my pocket external hard disk through my Philips LCD TV which has a USB port. Any Help?

If the TV has USB it probably has capability to do something with it, like view photos, or possibly play movies. But, in devices like dvd players that have USB on them they all require the file system to be FAT or FAT32. Your TV manual probably has all the details on that.

Alternatively you can wait for Slingcatcher to come out.

I use my PS3 for this purpose. You can pop in a memstick or usb drive in the front port, and videos/music/pictures will be listed on the crossbar menus for display or watching. It supports Divx and MPG movie formats perfectly and actually does a pretty good job of upscaling lower resolution to HD.

Thank you Sharkfood for your valuable suggestion. I will try it out.

I have a doubt.

It may be possible to compress HD to a lower resolution.
But is it possible to upscale lower resolution to HD?
Please correct me if I am wrong.
