Problems with excel 97 in windows xp.

When I'm in Excel and click on the option button under tools the program shuts down. I have re-installed Office 97 several times and the problem still occures. I have no problem using the option button in Word or Access, just in Excel. As far as I know everything else works in Excel. I was thinking that this might has something to do with Office 97 installed in Windows XP. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to fix it?
