Ps2 memory card problems

I'v just bought a ps2 and it works perfect with all my game but when I go to save them it says please insert memory cards. the ps2 reads that the memory cards are there on the home screen but not when I try to save. any help

Clean the memory card and the memory slots with compressed gas ( Or blow), then try a different Memory card slot.
