Realtek AC 97 problems... different than most

I have a stock HP with an AMD athlon 3800+ proc. with a standard Realtek AC 97 audio chipset, normal programs sound great... example... World of Warcraft, Windows Media Player etc... but when certain alert sounds play... then havoc is let loose... The chipset makes every link or program i click on howl with the most annoying ground out flat sound ive ever heard... a quick restart remedy's the situation... for 5 seconds.. another alert sound and another grounded howl... also certain programs such as google video player sets the chipset off.... Ive done all a 15 year old can, but atm its beyond my control.... Anyone hav any Driver downloads or suggestions to fixing my suicide enducing chipset?
