Samsung's Galaxy A51 is now widely available in the US

So Apple releases a “budget” phone with the same top of the line CPU as its flagship... Samsung answers with a phone with a crappier cpu... no thanks...

**so Apple re-releases the same phone they released in 2014 for the 5th time, claiming this is the only way to make a "budget handset" and Samsung responds with a phone with an actual 2020 design and double the battery for the same price, with likely similar end-user performance.

At least, I assume this is what you meant to say? Also, the flagship is the 11 Pro, which does not have the same CPU as the SE. That's the regular 11.

Yeah, that explains why the SE is getting great reviews everywhere. Maybe they know something you don't!

Yeah, Apple reviews generate clicks. That, and Apple has managed to successfully move the goalposts that releasing their 2014 design for the fifth time for not far off the price their flagship used to cost is now considered a steal.

These are the same reviewers who praised the Butterfly keyboard and the 2013 Trash Can Mac Pro, and said we were holding the iPhone wrong, and that bendgate was fake. Reviewers aren't honest.

6.5".... wtf???

currently there is no 4.7"-5" sized, decent android phone from the big manufacturers that could compete with the iphone SE.
We used to have the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, but that is outdated.
We can even get good budget phones from Nokia, Motorola etc, but all of them are big as a shovel.

What the F*** happened to the designers? Shove these big phones up there folks...

The closest you're gonna get is the S10e. That retails for about $550 new or $350-400 used/refurbed. Honestly I'd rather have that than the SE or the A51.

Sadly true. Even that s10e is 5.7” and more expensive than the SE. Not an option for me.

I also haven’t found an email app on android that comes even close to the default ios mail app.
For me facetime gives by far the best experience for video chatting with my family.
Considering all that I don’t even have an option to move over to android, though I would really like a little difference. I have been on the ios since the iphone 5 and it is getting a bit boring. Everything works perfectly but I also hate the apple tax....

Apples phone is far superior. A big screen and battery doesn’t make up for a lack of support, a slow processor and a shoddy operating system.

I understand if you presented the two phones to someone who doesn’t know about phones then that person would pick the Samsung on looks. But come on, we all know that if you buy the iPhone it’s going last way longer than this Samsung thing.

I bought my mum an A50s right when it launched last September. you know what? the phone is just slow. and no I'm not comparing it to some high-end device. just 3 months later they're back with A51 which uses the exact exynos 9611, identical main and selfie camera. Samsung just made the screen taller, reposition the notch, add useless macro camera, replace the ultrawide cam from 8MP to 12MP and boom it is now 50$ more.

sorry but I think anyone who bought A51 today instead of the now cheaper A50s is usually a fool or an ignorant. also, only an imbecile would compare an overpriced midrange samsung to an iPhone SE.

I'd say the real contender for iPhone SE is last year's huawei nova 5t which could be had for $320. it still uses google, and it uses same soc found in P30 pro which costs almost twice the price. I wouldn't say it's a steal, but it's a whole lot better than this A51 for sure.

If I was buying a new Android phone, Samsung and LG would be at the bottom of the list. Samsung churns out low quality high-priced phones. I'd check what's available from Motorola or a few of the Chinese brands.

There's a difference between a small phone and a small screen. The SE is not a small phone, it's basically the same size as the Google pixel-a devices, but with a small screen due to the massive bezels. Also tiny battery with 3-4 hour sot.

I'd take a Pixel3a over the SE2 any day of the week.

That’s not quite true. The iPhone is a full 20 mom shorter, it’s slightly narrower and thinner (source - google).

At first I thought 3a is the only phone I’d consider instead of this iPhone because it has a great camera. But unfortunately it does have the hot garbage of an OS called Android which personally I will not use. But for me the biggest problem with the 3a is that it’s slow and laggy (well documented in the reviews). So I’d still pick the iPhone.

Also the iPhone is made of glass and metal, has wireless charging and water resistance. The 3a has none of this and is made of cheap plastic. In fact the more I look the more I realise that there’s no way I’d pick the 3a over the iPhone. But then google have slashed the price of it in the face of this new iPhone. Not by enough if you ask me.

I just checked and you are right. I used to be comparing by screen size, but I realised with the disappearance of bezels that comparison is not reliable anymore. I saw the s10e and a40 are practically the same size as my iphone 7.
I might give the budget a40 a try to see how android feels.

That guy goes into an in-depth data packet analysis and reveals some rather interesting (and scary) connections going to Chinese-based IP addresses. That stuff alone makes me never want to touch a Chinese-made phone let alone let myself be within ten miles of one.

Watch that video, you will never want to buy a Chinese-made phone ever again.
Well Lawrence did not do his own data collecting ! The person who collected this data that Lawrence used for his video now claims that some of the hits to the Chinese website was because he did a search for some chinese companies or websites and has taken his github down that contained all the info that Lawrence used so perhaps it would be best if this Lawrence did his own research and testing and not go off of someone else's data as Lawrence would the reliability of his conclusions then and he could make a more updated and reliable video !

I favor AMOLED screen with high pixel density over everything else. I also prefer metal body.
Apple must have a good GPU, but I don't game on the phone, I rather use BlueStacks occasionally and play on PC, and if for example I'd play something, a MOBA on the phone, the screen size would be better than the GPU power. The attractive aspect of Apple's Se iteration, is the OS, but nothing is perfect, and only for someone to have high expectations crushed when an app hangs on or restarts, and c'est la vie goes on your IOS expectations. For those who remember CyanogenMod builds, android in not like is some random port, is actually very complex and optimized. The thing I don't favor about Android is the requirement to root the phone to do some optimizations of your own, and that google service is omnipresent.

PS. Before stating your opinion about something, first make sure the motive is not biased to begin with. Unbiased means to weight both the pleasure and the price of things.
