Sims 2 Install problem

From what i'm reading i'm guessing you have the DVD version of the Sims 2 then?

Is the DVD new or used? it might be problems with scratches on the disc thats why its unable to copy the files off... or maybe just dirt on the disc. Try wiping it down and see if that works.

I've done everything possible! It won't install!

I have wiped it and have checked the disk drive holder thingy for dirt and I have cleaned it. Seriously starting to think whats the point its just a game. But if I can't install it will resort to buying another one even though thats the last thing I want to do. Thanks for the advice.

Well, by all means i try not to push people into buying the game all over again... However, there ARE other ways to get the game installed on your computer, which some of course deem to be illegal.

I do think though that if you own the original copy then its not really so much as illegal because all you have is a disc that doesn't work...

if you know how to operate torrents and search on torrent sites thats your first stop for now i guess.

If you decide not to walk down that isle, then well, are there any visible scratches/ deep scratches or marks on the reading surface of the disc? have you tried to run cleaning discs (like those you can run on DVD players) on your DVD drive?

Might be a bit more extra buck but if you or any of your friends has a piece of utility called Disc Doctor then you should be able to use that to buff down the data surface of the disc incase of any major scratches... I have one and it works for me.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

The system requirements for Sims 2 are higher than for Sims 1. Maybe your system doesn't meet its requirements. What are your system specifications. If you aren't sure what kind of info to post, look to the far right of my user name and click on "System specs." If you aren't sure what your system specs are, go to Start > Run and type into the Run box, dxdiag.

I don't think that thats the case because regardless, that doesn't cause an installation error 3/4 way through... i think the problem lies within the disc, or the dvd drive.

Were do you get this disc doctor from? As I have basically gave up installing my sims considering I payed £40 for it. What a rip off!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but if you have EB Games in your area, you might be able to get disc doctor there. Otherwise, you could try getting it online or from some electronics stores perhaps...

Just a question though, is the disc new? because it might just be your DVD drive head that is unable to read the disc well enough... Usually using a cleaning disc helps...

I'm trying to help you go through this without having to spend money :X

I just bought a laptop in August. Its a Studio laptop using Window's Vista. I meet all the requirements to play the game, have Directx 9.0. I try to install the regular Sims 2 but when i insert the disk nothin comes up. I have put the disk in my home computer to see if its the disk and it works fine. I put in the expansions just to see if it was a problem with all the Sims 2 games and they worked fine also. Its the Dvd edition of Sims 2 and my CD Rom is working fine because I can put in other games and it runs fine. I've also try to install it in safe mode and nothin happened like usual

How can I fix this?

Urgent. Please help me.

when it's actually installing the game it gets to around 32% and gives me this error

"A problem occurred when trying to transfer 'F:\TSData\Control\control1.dat'
Do you want to retry top copy the file or cancel the installation?

of course I click retry a few times, hold down enter. Nothing works.
Very confused. I do have a DVD drive

System specs :
P4 3.06ghz
video card : geforce ti4800
HDD : 120gb
Ram : 512mb ddr
Please help.
[edit]

I fixed my own problem.

Looking around i seen that i still had my 2 virtual drives for nfsu2, and 2 for team america movie :\.

so if you have this problem and have virtual drives, remove them and it should fix it.

Hey there. I'm Maverick and I'm 13. I also have the same problem because I uninstalled and reinstalled my The Sims 2 awhile ago. I was very sad and dissapointed when I reached at cd 4 of The Sims 2 installer, and at 81%, it says "a problem occured when trying to copy file" which is like that. I click and clicked the 'retry' button, and I reached 100% with the same 'retry' method.

When I clicked "My Computer', it has a DVD Drive (D:) and has a CD Dive (E:). When I checked 'Add/Remove Programs', I have no program that has 'Alcohol 120%' How can I remove the DVD Drive? Before, I have no DVD drive like that but when I successfully installed the Sims 2 Open for business, I have it and installed the Daemon Drive something like that. It says here from the forums that you should uninstall the Daemon drive. But how can I remove it? The Daemon drive won't show up in the 'Add/Remove Program' from my computer.

Please help me! I want to have my The Sims 2 game back again! Please! I waited for years to have this game, but unlucky for me.
I hope anyone of you will help and replies fast immediately. Thanks you, Godbless, and Merry Christmas. :(

ok

Daemon Drive is Daemon Tools Virtual drive... so Start Daemon Tools, Right click on it's icon next to clock > Virtual CD/DVD-ROM > Set Number of Devices ...

ooh and someone who had problems with studio laptop bought in August, hmm your computer has DVD device probably but it may need some driver update... or you have CD-ROM device that can't read DVD-s ... then its crap

I don't suppose you could give us your computer specifications? That might help diagnose the problem and suggest a solution.

Hey um i hav an annoying problem. i try to install the sims 2,it gets to 22% and then it says a problem occured when trying to transfer the file 'D:/Support/European Help Files/Sv/webhelp.jar' from the media. and also says retry. So i did over and over about an hour. then i restart it and repeat the same process. then i just shut it down. HELP ME IM GOING CRAZY >.<

help!

so i'm a big fan of the sims. and i'm on my sister's old old laptop right now [home computer's CD drive doesn't work, so i'm using this dinosaur, it's from 2002 haha. a dell insprion 1100]. it is windows xp, and i think it goes w/ the game, like it has all the requirements.

so i'm installing the first CD, and it gets to 22%, Support\*.*, and then it stops installing, then says "a problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'D:\support\EA help\whgdata\whlst9.htm' from the media.
do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?"

and i press retry, but it doesn't go, it goes back to that message.

what should i do??

[&& i dunnoo if this laptop has a DVD drive thing, can you find out? i dunno how.)

Hey there ferocious dude : P Welcome to tech spot.

I take it you're trying to install the game using CD's? a few things come to mind, as it being an old machine, whether your cd reader has gone and collected dust and hence unable to read the disc properly... if not, there is a chance that your disc is scratched and your optical drive is unable to pick it up properly... Or both, meaning that the disc might read fine on newer drives though struggle on yours.

If you have any cd burning software on the laptop, its quite easy to find out if the computer has a DVD reader. Somewhere in the software it should show you details about your drive. If not there are plenty of free software to help you check that... you could always try downloading CDBurnerXP and checking...

Regarding getting the disc to work, well sims has ALWAYS caused trouble when it came to installing (one of the reasons why i prefer the DVD version and not only that, as a cd image rather than a physical disc).

Wish you good luck on that, and hope that this amount of information helps.

Have you tried going into my computer and double clicking your drive's icon to launch? if it doesn't launch, and instead brings you into the disc, there should be a setup.exe or autorun.exe you can run.

ok i have another problem when i install an exstention pack the walls on the houses flash red is their any way to stop it.

hi can you plz help i installed sims2 but every time i click on the icon it says please insert the correct cd rom, and it is the right one it's really annoying plz can you help?

please, help.

Hmm, Welcome snb44,

Actually, i have one question to ask you first. Are you running any form of anti-virus on your computer?

You mentioned that one day it said that you got that message one day. I can only think that with these kind of cases, that you might have a hijacker virus in your computer destroying and renaming your files, as i had one before like that a very long time ago.

You can try going to where you installed your game, like "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Sims 2\Sims2.exe" or something like that I'm just guessing the directory, and run it straight from the exe file. If you don't have an exe file in there, or your exe has become something different, then yes, possibly you have a virus in your computer or something along the lines.

Its my first guess at your problem since you said you've tried to reinstall the game a couple of times, and i'm assuming you installed and uninstalled correctly, and used the newly created shortcut icons.
