So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

my bro has a dell demension 4400 he plays wow in my grandmas basement using a 128 mb ati radeon 9200 4x AGP, run's great.bought at yard sale for $20. i just bought a nice biostar p4m80 motherboard for my case which i am using right now has 160 gb sata hdd, ddr2 1gb of ram. i just bought a new 480 watt psu, the one i am using right now is a 230 watt psu i pulled from an amd based computer (dose not support p4) so i wired it up so it does. the downside is that i cannot play WoW with normal fps it's like 16fps ;lol because i have no video card all i have is Integrated s3 unichrome. w/agp 8x . what kind of video card should i buy?

That depends on your budget. If your looking to spend around $60, then I'd go with a Radeon 9800PRO found here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102369

In the $100 price range I'd go with a GeForce 7300gt. This one has a rebate for $30 right now, dropping it to $90:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150198

If you can spend $150, go with a Radeon X850XT:

Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions!

Hey everybody,
I decided to post here because the thread is about pci cards. I have a dell 2400 and i have install a geforce fx 5200. Dont bash me ok the card sucks. I'm just trying to gain a little experience before I try to build my own gaming rig. So here is my problem: i installed the card installed drivers. The card is still not working properly. Whats happing is when i boot up an image is displayed from the graphics card. When i get to the login screen i get an image from the integrated graphics chip. I tried uninstalling the extreme drivers, disable in bios. The bios only gave me the choice of on board and auto. When set to on board it displays the whole booting up thing. When set to auto the computer does what i have describe. Thanks for any help been messing with it for a couple of days after work.

Ok, so I have a question for all of you pci gamers out there. Are you able to run the Nvidia demo "Dawn" with decent frame rates? My first video card was an MX 4000 and Dawn was very choppy. Then I upgraded to an FX 5500. Still no improvement. Now I have a 6200, and it still runs exactly the same as with the MX 4000. Is it just because of the pci interface or a driver problem? Any help would be great!:D

hi
i got the same pci "problem", i got a pavilion w5220la , p4 prescott 2,93ghz, 2 gb ddr2 ram, 3 pci slots(1 is using the network card), and an intel 82915G/910GL integrated video.
Using the 3dmark2001 i scored 5161.
I want to know if there will be a improvement if i buy an ati radeon x1300 pci 256 or a geforce 6200 256 pci, i read some reviews about the radeon x1300 saying that its not so good, they run nfs most wanted with 800 x600 and low resolution with the x1300, i got that game, and i can play it without problem at 1280 x 1024 with low resolution, that means the integrated intel is better than the radeon x1300??? Maybe is just for that game, or maybe the geforce is better than the radeon??? is so much difference between visontek and diamond, wich one is better?
I also want to know if using 2 pci slots (graphic and network) will lag the video card (i read somewhere that pci speed is shared or something like that), is something i can do about it?
Thanks a lot

Guys i have few questions. But before that here is my system:

Pentium 933 MHZ FSB: 133.
Mobo: i810e
Ram: PC 100 128 MB.
Video card: Integrated
Sound card: ALS 4000.
Hard disk: 10 GB 5400 RPM.
Operating system: Windows98SE

Now if you are still reading this; then here are my questions:

1. What is the situation between Performance between Windows 98SE and Windows 2000? Or is Windows XP beating both of them only in Gaming department? Considering my system.

2. Should i buy a PCI video card like Geforce or ATI or should save money to upgrade my system?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

frus: The x1300 should be a nice improvement over your current integrated. If nothing else, at least it frees up the 64-128mb of memory you're integrated is "stealing" from your system ram. On my dell, adding a pci 6200(which is somewhat slower than the x1300) was a nice improvement over the integrated intel. I like the diamond best. Pci is shared so your nic will use pci bandwidth. If you really want to get around that you could buy a usb to ethernet adapter, and remove the pci nic.

Myelin: Personally, I doubt it'd be worth getting a x1300 card for your system. It would let it play older games, but you'd be very limited on what newer games you could play with your other hardware specs(cpu, memory, hard drive speed). If you just want to play some older games, it might be worth the upgrade, but if you're wanting to play the newer games, then save up for a new system.

hello im new here and i need some recommendation
my current system is..

processor: 2.8 ghz celeron (window XP home)
ram: 1 gig (ddr sdram)
video: intergrated
sound card: intergrated
harddrive: 120 gig

i want to get a graphics card but i only have a PCI slot..
i've been searching around for some cards and picked out a few

1) bfg geforce 6200 oc @ best buy
2) chaintech geforce fx 5200 @ newegg
and i read a few posts stating that the radeon x1300 is pretty good

im trying to run games such as PSU, doom 3, elder scrolls 4, and other things..

i want to get the geforce 6200 but it seems like a bit pricy for a pci
can you guys recommend me with another option? or is one of these a
good choice? please help =/

The 6200 PCI completely destroys the FX5200. Sure it's pricier, but faster too. The X1300 PCI is the fastest of them all, but is also much more expensive, running upto $130. The 6200 is the best choice since it gives the best balance of power and affordability.

video card

i have dell 2400 computer and i am having trouble with my on board video
but i would like to put a video card in my computeo i have only white pci
and would like to know white kind of card would work on this maching

You answered yourself already, only PCI card will work on your motherboard.

Some examples:
Visiontek Radeon X1300 SFF / 256MB DDR2
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2563226&CatId=0
Visiontek Radeon 9250 / 128MB DDR
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2563229&CatId=0
3DFuzion GeForce FX 5500 / 256MB DDR
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1520540&CatId=0

I'm using the third one, but the first one is the best.

hi
thanks vnfultra for the answer
well i want to answer back about some pci issue, well i discovered an integrated ethernet port thank god, im using it now for internet, so i got one pci slot free , but i got modem inserted on another pci slot, i dont use it, so my question is, i need to unplug the modem for the video card? i dont use the modem so is not using the pci shared bandwidth right?

The diamond card claims to be 128bit, which would be nice, but one of the reviews claims the card is really a 64bit. (Customer reviews aren't definitive though, customer intelligence varies.)

Viper is a series of cards by Diamond, which I think is supposed to be more "high end" than the stealth series.

I'd get the diamond, it's cheaper, and it could be a 128bit card(and if it is really 64bit, then it's the same as the visiontek, but cheaper.) The diamond also appears to come with a dvi to vga adapter and a svideo/composite cable, that the visiontek lacks.

Hey, um...sorry for intruding on your post, but I convinced my grandparents to get me this graphics card:

http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...uct_code=333475&Pn=GeForce_FX_5500_Video_Card

Now, I know what I wanted. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS: Is this card fully compatible with the Sims 2? I didn't see it as a supported card in the system requirements... Also, considering System #1 is a Compaq Presario S5010NX with a 250W PSU in my profile...Would this card work? Would it potentially blow my PSU? Finally...considering all of this info, what would be the potential future gameplay this system could support, and what performance benefit would I get from using this card in my system?

I guess this is the visiontek card.

Does anyone know a site where I can buy a BFG Geforce 6200 PCI that ships internationally?
ebay?

Sims 2 supports a fx5200, so a fx5500 should be fine(5500 is a slightly faster 5200). Most pci cards draw very little power, so my guess is that it'll be fine.

Future gameplay is very limited if you only have a pci card or integrated graphics.

ok i need some help here
im going to buy an x1300 card i need some advice
i have to choose between the diamond viper (will be avaiable on amazon after christmas (http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Viper...536848-5426247?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics) ) and the visiontek.
I almost know everything about the visiontek it got like 4 reviews, benchmarks, almost 5 stars on every customer review at online stores, i know its a 64 bit card and stuff like that.
But i know almost nothing about the viper i havent found a review or something helpfull, also i know both card were launched at the same time (october 2006 i think) so whys the visiontek so popular?? maybe its a better card, its also easier to find.
I hope someone who already bought a diamond viper x1300 pci can review it or at least give me an advice
thanks

So the diamond is actually a 64 bit card right (i read that form one review at newegg) and that visiontek is a Small Form Factor Video Card, its a really small card and i read somewhere that it wont fit on my cpu because is too small, is that right??
maybe this card from diamond is a real 128 bit? http://www.diamondmm.com/X1300PCI256.php
or is the same ???
thanks

yes I am about to order this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814103016

which is the same as this right?

http://www.diamondmm.com/X1300PCI256.php

I just want it to be in fact 128 bit i mean the site says it is and newegg says so. so shoudlent that means its 128 bit and that reviewer is wack?

im upgrading from a 6200 PCI 3D Fuzion

6200 is

64 bit
DDR
350/400 mhz
128 MB

the X1300

is supposedel 128 bit
450/500 mhz
GDDR2
256 MB

both with 4 pipes

even if x1300 is 64 bit ti still beats the 6200 by alot but i really wannna know for sure if its 128 bit i mean 2 official site says so

and the reviewere is dumb

You know, I got a PCI FX 5500 from CompUSA, didn't know what memory interface it was, and then was surprised to find out (through Everest) that it was 128bit. You can always send it back if it isn't what you want, right?

I talked 2 the newegg ppl and they said it is 128 and if its 64 i can return for a refund

so im ordering it now
