Sony quietly removes PC mentions from PlayStation Studios pages

Connecting the dots: Sony's latest changes to how it presents PlayStation Studios are fueling fresh questions about whether the company is walking away from its recent push to bring big-budget single-player games to PC. In recent weeks, some reports have claimed that a PC version of Ghost of Yotei was scrapped late in development, while others have questioned whether Housemarque's Saros will still come to PC. That backdrop has put unusual weight on what might otherwise look like a routine corporate website refresh.

On PlayStation Studios' official site, Sony has updated the main banner to prominently feature Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, while Demon's Souls Remake no longer appears in the lineup.

The shuffle extends to the roster of internal teams. Bluepoint Games and Dark Outlaw Games have been removed from the site's studio lineup, and Sony now lists teamLFG instead, describing it as a new first-party outfit made up of former Bungie developers.

The studio's presence reflects Sony's ongoing investment in live-service and multiplayer projects, even as its stance on single-player PC releases appears to be shifting.

The most telling change, however, is in the text attached to many of those studios. Almost all explicit references to PC have disappeared from their official descriptions, leaving Nixxes Software – the internal team best known for handling PC ports – as the lone PlayStation Studios profile that still calls out the platform.

For observers already watching for signs of a strategic pivot, that edit reads less like a cosmetic tweak and more like a signal of where Sony wants its first-party output to land.

On X, user Zuby_Tech displayed the revised language side-by-side with archived versions of the site. PlayStation XDev previously described itself as "collaborating with ambitious external studios across the globe," a broadly framed remit that aligned with Sony's experiment to bring more titles to multiple platforms.

The wording now reads, "partnering with talented independent studios to publish exciting, exclusive titles for PlayStation players worldwide," explicitly positioning the console audience as the destination.

Valkyrie Entertainment's profile has undergone a similar reframing. The former description called Valkyrie "a well-respected studio known for producing high-quality work across a range of platforms, from console to PC."

That has been replaced by: "providing top-tier co-development expertise to several of PlayStation Studios' most iconic and award-winning franchises, including Astro Bot, Helldivers 2, and God of War." The new text firmly places Valkyrie inside Sony's first-party lineup and removes any direct mention of PC as a platform, raising doubts about Sony's strategy of porting narrative-heavy blockbusters beyond the console ecosystem.

Sony has not announced a formal change in policy, and there has been no official statement confirming that Ghost of Yotei, Saros, or other single-player flagships have been permanently pulled from PC roadmaps.

Still, taken together – the reported cancellations, the removal of PC from studio descriptions, and the renewed emphasis on exclusivity in official wording – the signs point to a tighter focus on PlayStation hardware for the company's traditional single-player franchises, at least for now.

This will be in response to steam potentially being on the next Xbox. Basically so their games aren’t playable on Xbox. However I’m not buying a £500+ console, rising to closer to a grand for the next gen by rumours, for a handful of games when I could buy the next Xbox and potentially play all of my steam library on a TV friendly OS.

I really don’t understand it either as they make nothing or a loss on hardware sold to make money on third party title sales and the PC ports of first party IP are essentially free money for a small amount of porting work.

Haven't purchased any of the games coming from Sony anyway. After they wanted me to sign up for a Sony Account, I closed my wallet. Pretty much gave up on consoles after the problems with the PS3/XBox RRoD era anyway.

I remember when SONY made their proprietary Memory Stick impossibly and unnecessarily expensive, thereby severely crippling my PDA experience.

When they did that I vowed to never buy from them again.
So, effectively this company does not exist.

I was under the assumption that ported titles like "Horizon Dawn", "God of War" and others sold very well on the PC. Seems like they're cutting of their nose to spite their face. But maybe I'm wrong, I haven't looked deeply at it.
I dont think its because the sales that Sony dont want further of its games on PC, I think its because the next Xbox will also play PC games, hence PlayStation games, then people will ask "Why would I buy a PS6 when Xbox play Xbox games, PC games and PlayStation games? I'll only buy the Xbox".

So, when (not if) Sony inevitably decides to come back to PC (because let's be real here, PlayStation players can brag all they want about how much better exclusivity is and how much better that makes the games, but this isn't 2010 anymore), is the market going to shun them? Like a bitter ex trying to regain favor? Are there enough console players to make up the difference?

People aren't to keen to be snubbed, so I wonder how that will work out...

I thought so too, I also heard they did. Also Last of Us, Spiderman 1 (I think 2 failed) and Ghost of T. I fail to see why they think PC aint worth it. These games sold well, I bought every single one too. I saw positive news and reviews too. Some games did badly too. It looks like 70-30%. Thats a win win in my book. PC games wish they sold as well lol, at least many of them dont. Sony also forgets 1 little thing. Half of their fist ports were buggy as hell. I waited 1 year before I can play the last of us. 1 year. Weekly patches. Thats how bad that game ran on my PC. RTX 3070 didnt even ran it with 8GB VRAM. They fixed that A YEAR later.

Also, Sony forgets its just ports... full prices ports of old games. I think they sold good enough. Free money is free money. I would NEVER buy a PS5 to play any of them.

They're just mad that PC gamers have a bigger spine than their usual customers. I'd bet that us forcing them to drop Playstation login requirements on games (especially SP ones) embarrassed someone up top and this is their revenge. And now only MP games will be ported and forcing a login.

All I can say is, f*** em. Especially since they see us as second class gamers, especially when trying to double-dip. They've been acting like they're entitled to our wallets, and upon pushback, are now apparently throwing a temper tantrum despite how much "free" money they were making.

I seriously hope this next gaming generation humbles them hard.

They did but Sony wasn't getting any real benefit but MS and Steam were. Mainly Steam and I dont think Sony cared for that to happen.

May want to leave that one in the oven a bit longer there chief. If Steam is benefitting from their 30% cut, where do you think the other 70% is going? Not to mention Sony did get a big benefit: sales from PC players that have no interest in buying a PlayStation. Microsoft figured that out years ago, and while Xbox is floundering their software division is still strong (also not great, but thats a different issue).

They did, but Sony is desperate for control. They want you to buy on Their platform, so they dont have to give a cut to Steam. Sony loves control almost as much as Nintendo (see also the PS account shenanigans) and PC doesnt give them that.

What will end up happening is sales will drop, eventually some heads will roll, and in 5 years Sony will announce they are coming back to PC as their games continue to fail to perform to expectations.

What was that attempt for then? Are they admitting it was a mistake to give PC gamers some of their games?
I think the biggest mistake they are making is not releasing new games on all new platforms.
There are too many "high-quality" games. A person sees a game that is not on his platform, and he just buys something similar available on his platform. The industry is too big, the games are plenty, gaming corporations should fight for every customer if they want to survive and prosper.
In addition, new and improved console prices will play a big role as well. In the past, a lot of people would not hesitate to buy a PS to play an exclusive, in addition to owning a PC or Xbox. But when console prices are 1000+, Sony is not just going to gain as many new customers; they will just ignore the game and platform as well. Microsoft is being much smarter, they want every fan who wants to play their game.

That could be it. I also think they are very allergic to seeing their games pirated. Those PC ports of Sony games didn't use Denuvo and were presumably pirated to a pretty high extent.

Denuvo is getting cracked same day now.

Sony just wants those sales on the PS store where they dont have to give up 30%. Simple greed.

I wouldn't call hypervisor a real crack. It's pretty risky.

Steam still managing to get 30% of every sale is pretty insane tbh.

They can cancel all the ports they want, those games will come to PC, one way or another. They just motivated a lot of people to work on PS5 emulation.

Resistance is futile. PC will assimilate all consoles.

Sonys issue with MS is coming from the fact that MS said the next console with feature pc titles. So yeah, MS is playing a factor in Sonys decision.
Sony make 30% from third party titles on the PS5, 100% for first party titles on the PS5 and 70% for first party titles on Steam. Sonys issue here is that 30% fee they pay Steam. Sony is believed that some or all of that 30% they give Steam help fund the Steam Deck which they view as a competitor.
Sony gets 30% for every third party title sold on the PS5 as mentioned but if a user switches to pc, Sony gets 0.

Not Sonys titles aka First Party titles. They belong to them and will not be giving them up. They have already canceled Ghost of Yotei and others from coming to PC.

Kernel grade Cheap-Anti is not risky?

Hypervisor is already good enough to work around Denuvo. Other DRMs and Cheap-Anti may come. Soon™

Hypervisor or not, it does not matter if the math is done on server side.

PS: If Sony does not want my money its their loss. I can live without their games.

My point is you will be able to play those with emulation on PC. It is the only platform that can play (given time for emulation to mature) any game from any console.

Roughly 10 million copies sold last year and around 600m in revenue. This is without the Steam cut as this 600m comes straight from Sony's own financial documents.

I guess 10m copies and 600m in revenue (minus the porting costs) were not enough for the suits at Sony, but this wouldn't be the first, nor the last time a Japanese company makes a dumb decision contrary to it's own financial bottom line and it's customers interests...

Exactly. Emulators have gotten even a complex PS3 games running to say nothing of obscure arcade games. Getting x86 based PS5 games running (eventually) should much less of an issue.

Not a big loss. Yotei wasn't what Tsushima fans wanted anyway. Not to mention hiring a blue haired lunatic to voice to protagonist. Also the overall story was far weaker than Tsushima's.
Even had it come to PC I would have not played it unlike Tsushima that I went trough twice.
