Speakers only work plugged into headphone jack

Monitor w/ built in speakers is an HP f2105.

Windows 7 32bit

I turned my computer off for a week. The first time it's ever been off in 5 years. It has an onboard Realtek soundcard. It worked perfectly before leaving for vacation. I come back and there is no sound. Headphones work and the speakers work when plugged into the front panel headphone jack.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and making Onboard Sound Card "Enabled" in BIOS. Is it likely that the onboard sound just stopped working while being shut off or is there another underlying issue?

Will the headphones work when plugged into the back panel (green jack)?

Perhaps you have a corrosion problem inside the jack (the green one at the back). Try plugging and unplugging the speaker plug into the jack several, several times to see if you can restore electrical contact.
