Spotify stops shuffling album tracks by default after Adele requests the change

I still buy my music, it is just a shame Google shut down Play Music because I now buy a lot less music and have turned to the used CD market on amazon and that must impact the artists much more than a shuffle button on a streaming service.

Well, if you really want to take the moral high ground, you could always buy a new CD from Amazon for twice the price.

As far as used CDs are concerned, the Artist was already paid once for the disc. I'm not really certain they were expecting royalties to be paid 5 or 6 times for selling the same disc over and over.

Besides, here in the US the record sellers are dealing in new CDs as well. Usually, when you add the $4.00 shipping to the seller's price, it comes to the same price as Amazon's. And since you have to spend $25.00 from Amazon for free shipping, the bargain resides with the marketplace sellers.

On a re-release the pendulum swings back to Amazon. Like when you have some fool sitting on a disc expecting to get maybe $100.00, and the reissue is $9.95.

As far as Adele's "30" goes, I'm not hell bent on owning or listening to it over and over, in order or otherwise..

I just opened this album and pretty much shuffle button is there and enabled by default.
But I agree with Adele, that those options shouldn't be defaulted. Again, removing a button instead of just set it in 'not shuffled' state for initial run is a bit too much.

Saves and checkpoints were used and limited by the systems available at the time, I don't know any games before Xbox 360/ PS3 era that had true quick save (hit a button during gameplay with no impact on performance), before that saving a game used to incur a short wait time.

I suppose you could argue that you couldn't shuffle with music due to technological limitations as well, I think CD players would've been the first to implement this?

But even then with video games you DO get people arguing that quicksaves compromise artistic vision in games where they're not implemented by the artist, for example using save states in emulators to save when you're not meant to, or constantly reload a point you're stuck on is called 'cheesing' and frowned upon by puritans and the sort of people who like to control how others have fun (There is some crossover between these two groups, but not every puritan is a spoilsport).

Like this article was saying, it doesn't remove the ability to shuffle, it just stops it being default when I'd say majority of artists deliberately chose the order of songs (not just concept albums, but how they flow into each other, themes, energy, emotion), its still default shuffle for playlists, which I think is more appropriate.

This is typical of the old ways of doing things: Her default and the default of many artists is that they could create a concept album if they wanted, but it couldn't be a single, full LP length song because the radio still wanted singles of about 2 to 4 minutes long best, because they need to run commercials in between.

So we're talking about Adele discussing what was common and popular knowledge born in an era over 50 years ago with LPs and radio, today modern artists are quickly adapting to having longer songs if their vision for a "story" doesn't works under 5 minutes, mostly because unlike Adele most musicians today don't actually *need* to follow the radio formula: they don't need the full record to be "experienced" since chances are that will never happen so they adapt and learn to be more cohesive and focus on "singles" instead of "full albums" now and honestly works out a lot better.

Good point. Lets get rid of chapters in books too, while we're at it. Just one long tome, with no segmentation at all. They were only put there by publishers, anyway.

Most of this is irrelevant for most albums as most albums are just collections of songs with no threads or connection.
Most of this is also due to the fact that "listening" to an album was a whole body "experience"/"ritual" that is sadly lost in the digital age.

Buying the album, pouring over the album cover on the way home, preparing the record deck, laying down the needle for the first time and settling down on your bed or a comfy sofa/chair with the inside sleeve with hopefully all the lyrics and all the liner notes and pictures.

It used to be so much more than just hearing some songs.

Good explanation. I just do not want to play something over and over if for any reason I have difficulty. With a true save system I can help alleviate that. My feeling on the save system not being implemented has more to do with pressure on the coders from management to get the game out the door(sound familiar) and it is quicker to checkpoint a game. If I'm wrong so be it can someone tell me what's easier and quicker? Saves or checkpoints.

Albums where every song is worth listening to are very rare. A couple that come to mind...from the olden days of course are Machine Head-Deep Purple, Full House-J.Geils and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere-Neil Young. There are others but I have a rack full of one or two song albums

Makes sense. Just make sure people can play however they want like any other given player allows. With certain albums IDC, with others, I would prefer the original lineup. Why this had to be a thing is silly. It would be nice to be able to select what songs I want to listen to and others I do not. Actually, I have never used Spotify. Not once. Lol.

I've never used shuffle. But, if I were spotify, I'd tell her to either like how we play your album, or we'll just drop you.

I like playing an album and I'm surprised after I hit the thumbs up button, over time, after the album is finished (in correct order), I've stumbled upon some new artists I've never heard before.
