Last week, when Marcelo Claure was appointed as the new CEO of Sprint, he noted that price cuts were coming. Just four days into the job, he's reportedly set to good on his promise by announcing that the company will be implementing “very disruptive” pricing as soon as next week.

"We're going to change our plans to make sure they are simple and attractive and make sure every customer in America thinks twice about signing up to a competitor", Claure said, adding that the company's success would depend on becoming extremely cost efficient and competing aggressively.

The announcement was made yesterday at a company-wide town hall meeting where he outlined the company's three business priorities: reduce prices, improve the network, and decrease operational costs.

The new CEO explained that aggressive pricing plans are the need of the hour as the company is facing stiff competition from AT&T and Verizon, the nation's top two wireless companies, who have a combined market share of over 70 percent. Not to mention T-Mobile, who has already disrupted the wireless market with its Uncarrier plans.

The news comes at a time when the nation's third largest wireless carrier is struggling to retain its customers. Just last month, the company said it had lost a net 220,000 subscribers in the fiscal first quarter.

When asked about job cuts, Claure acknowledged they are inevitable, but didn't provide further details. He also shared his personal email address with everyone, encouraging employees to approach him directly, while promising to have frank and honest conversations.

Hooray for cheaper prices, it'll bring their pricing back in line with their sub-par network. T-Mo gets away with a smaller network because of lower prices. Sprint has a big network but it's slow; it's about time it cost less to compensate.

They claim to be 'building a new network from the ground up' which they talk about like it's a good thing, but when I hear that I hear 'small network, not yet in your city.'

Sprint should follow T-Mo and offer some other cool perks... like free international data and/or calling and texting.

All they have to do, it get rid of all contracts, all background checks and sell cell phone much lower and most of all unlimited data plans. Then watch everyone flock to Sprint. Okay dream is over then! Back to the real world of expensive Cell phone bills and services limited data plans!

I've been enjoying a Sprint Unlimited Family plan for the last 6 years, with 4 phones, under $170 / month. I like never having surprises. The prices are low, but T-Mobile has attractive prices too. Compared with the top dogs (AT&T or Verizon) Sprint and T-Mobile are providing a similar service at a better price. If this new plan is "very disruptive" I can't wait to see it.

Amen to lower prices for us loyal customers. I am ready to switch if their cruddy network stays they same with current unproportional prices.

When I hear what people pay to be "connected" I laugh. You have all been suckered

A fair complaint. I've had good customer service and low prices. Which is about all that's keeping me a customer. My friends with Verizon enjoy their data while I'm in a dead zone in some areas. I feel like a 3rd world citizen having to beg for them to offer me a hotspot. =) It's not all bad, I just can't say it's perfect everywhere I go.

I live in Madison, WI and to be honest I am a bit disappointed with Sprint's service since signing up about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I frequently run into dead zones while others who have US Cellular or Verizon still have fast data connections.

Sprint has been saying for the last couple years that service in Madison will improve, but I've yet to see it.

Fortunately, I have their Framily Plan with 9 people on the plan so my monthly bill is under $60, but I still feel like I'm getting hosed.
