Stalker Save Game Problems Vista x64

I am having problems playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R on Windows Vista 64 bit

Everything was fine until I died, upon trying to load my last saved game it crashed to desktop displaying the problem as:

XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT in module "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\bin\xrCore.dll" at 0023:0020CC85, xrDebug::backend()+165 byte(s)

I installed every patch up to 1.0006 as soon as I installed and according to Device manager my Nvidia graphics driver is 7.15.11.6902. My build can be found in my profile.

I have tried everything else suggested in previous threads without success

Exta Info:
Autosave still works, but minimap is blank and all settings are reset to default
I had also previously been running the game at maximum graphical settings

Since we're supposed to post if we find a solution, i'll tell you what I did.

I backuped my saves and reinstalled the game and its patches
I left it unmodded, since I had been using the Repair mod beforehand
I then deleted the corrupt saves and kept going, I have had no problems since then.

It looks as though the problem was probably the mod
