T-Mobile and AT&T warn that FCC's proposed unlocking rule could increase phone prices

Carrier phones are already more expensive. I always buy unlocked phones. Carriers claim that is it interest free payments but if I can easily buy the same phone for a lower total cost.

I don't remember the exact numbers (I do remember it was $200 cheaper)
I was able to buy my unlocked phone from Amazon for $1200. My carrier was going to sell me that same phone for $1400 but "interest free" payments. I call BS the interest is built into the price. It would cost $200 me over two years to buy from my carrier or about 8% interest.

If people want their phones unlocked within 60 days then they should pay them entirely within that time.

Phones shouldn't be unlocked for you to use whatever way you want if you haven't fully paid for them....Just like a car is not yours until is being fully paid for.

Fair is fair.
False, your car is YOUR car. As long as you are paying for it, you can drive it whenever, with whoever, however and wherever you want. Stop making excuses for obvious corporate greed and obvious lies.

The carriers should sell them unlocked in the first place and then there would be no labor costs involved in unlocking them later. Locked phones are just a marketing gimmick anyway. It's just a strong-armed tactic to retain customers. That's where the law should be changed.

Yeah it's corporate manipulation and greed that it is even done in the first place. I've lived in many countries outside the US and none of them lock down phones to providers.
