I was calling them out for being tyrants then too buddy, sorry you missed it. I have repeatedly hammered on school districts for violating basic rights and long advocated for parents to take control of their respective districts.

The case I gave was a school district that allowed some viewpoints to be expressed, but not others. In this particular case, the city council allowed everyone to express their viewpoint when speaking -- but set rules to allow these meetings to be conducted in a timely, orderly manner.

Do you honestly not see the difference? If you allow one person to clap, then you must allow others to as well. And if you allow the audience to express support by clapping, you must ALSO allow them express dissent by booing. And once people start clapping and booing, for how long do you allow it to proceed? Ten seconds? One minute? Twenty minutes? Long experience has taught that, when contentious issues are on the table, allowing audience participation quickly degenerates into chaos, with dozens of people from each shout shouting at each other or worse. That is why the courts have long ruled public meetings of this sort can set neutral zero-tolerance rules to maintain order.

No "freedom of expression" was being suppressed. Voice your support or dissent -- but not during the meeting.

OK, read slowly: There are things that are perfectly normal in one case, but completely intolerable (and that's why, often punishable) in another. E.g. it's fine to drive with 70+ mph on most interstate, but it's a lunacy to do that in a city.
99.99% of the population does not call that "Orwellian double-speed" and does not consider behaving like a lunatic 'freedom of expression'.

All this inane disinformation has long been debunked. First of all, the largest strain on the US grid at present is the proliferation of non-demand "green" sources: windmills and solar farms. For the last 20 years, I've heard environmentalists advocating for the trillion-dollar grid upgrades required to use these at scale, without any pushback.

As for water use, Kansas hardly qualifies as an arid state, and this particular datacenter will use a closed-loop system, consuming just 800 acre-feet per year of water. Golf courses in the US use several times as much water as all datacenters combined, and I don't hear any complaints about them-- even when they're sited in arid states, and use millions of gallons annually to keep those greens lush.

AI is the #1 growth technology of the 21st century. Either the US becomes a leader in it, or China will call the shots, and the US economy will be based on selling them corn, soybeans, and pork bellies.
