Dunno about that. Ray tracing should have been the killer app of RTX 2000 cards, and I'm still forced to disable it on Elden Ring to get a steady 60+ QHD frame rate with a GeForce RTX 4080 Super...

Fyi, Turing GPUs arrived eight years ago. Eight - years - ago, and things are definitely not getting much better in my garden :-D

Nvidia has officially announced that it's working on optimizing it for the 50 series and already have seen 5x improvements. After that, they will bring it the 40 series. Just remember early DLSS days compared to today. Performance mode at 4k looks almost DLAA.
 
DLSS is Deep Learning Super Sampling. Super Sampling is meant to improve performance by rendering fewer pixels and reconstructing the image. It shouldn't become a marketing umbrella for every AI technology NVIDIA develops. Frame generation and neural rendering are different things — call them what they are.
I hate these marketing names.

Ok this is new information for me! My understanding was despite it being taxing, we can just use the Super Resolution Upscaling feature...but guess not! I imagine this was meant to coincide w/ the 6xxx release, but since that has been pushed back due to the RAM crisis, we have to make due w/ the 5xxx series and yes they're struggling. Excited for the future though!

The Raytracing and RTX 2000 series is the first thing that popped up in my mind too! When raytracing was first released it was barely useable, but by the 3xxx series it was decent, and now it runs well in most games. The Elden Ring might just be crappy implementation, some of those Japanese console ports have horrendous optimization for PCs.
 
You didn't buy that card to play games did you? Get with the times, you bought a data center cypto..err...AI card. I fear the days of gaming driving hardware innovation are over. :(

This is exactly what I am talking about... No Tim... it doesn't... we can all answer the question right now. Stop trying to influence the narrative. It doesn't worth sacrificing 60% of your performances for having a live AI filter over your games while introducing a lot of artifacts.

This whole process should be done at the DEVELOPER level... not locally on your hardware. Don't tell me the devs cannot do this at their level and avoid the requirement for DLSS5 running locally altogether.

You sound new to PC gaming.
This type of thing has been going on since the 90s.
Once in awhile new tech, like tesselation, or ray tracing, or whatever it is, releases, and destroys modern GPUs.

Still, something like a 5070Ti still handles it well at 1080p and 1440p.

There's gotta be something wrong on your end, I'm on QHD with a 4070 Super and I get 60fps with ray tracing, even my 1% lows are barely below that.
 
Nvidia hyping DLSS 5 exclusively through 6X frame gen numbers and then this article showing the raw hit is basically the industry standard playbook now. DLSS 5 is truly next gen, and with that I mean, only for next gen hardware that is not here yet.

Nothing wrong in my system. Certain parts of the game thank the frame rate while ray tracing is on. And I want to play at more than 100 frames per second all the time :-D
 
Once again, potentially fun thing especially for modding old games to make them look awesome, but a few years too soon. But then again, I try to see something positive in everything...

Ray tracing has been in RTX cards for 7 years now, it still destroys a card without upscaling and frame gen in newer titles. An RTX 5070Ti should be a 4K card, given Nvidia claimed the 3090Ti was an "8K" card 4 years ago.
