The 2027 BMW i3 is here, and it's nothing like the hatchback you remember

The 2027 i3 still has a 'beaver' grille. It's just been flattened. It still has the twin panels separated with a thin vertical pillar.

Some BMW grilles were pretty nice. I'm not sure the new i3 is an improvement.

The new I3 looks like a dude bro wearing wrap around Oakleys lol.
 
NO thanx. I think I'll just keep driving my 2011 Sion XB. That's a Toyota for those of you who didn't know. Charging an EV, takes too long, and finding a place to charge one when on the road, would not be pleasant. Not, to mention I can go 500 miles on a tank, (Toyota) before having to fuel up. Of, course that's all highway driving.

The, car only has 70,000 miles on it I, don't drive much, I ride my bicycle for the most part, unless it's raining, or I go grocery shipping. It'll be running long after I'm gone.

No, you don't rent or borrow for the 1% because it's crazy expensive. I rented a minivan 2 years ago for a single day and it cost me 500 €. Thanks but no thanks. I need a car that can do everything for me, not just "most" things.
And buying and running a EV with a big battery compared to a modest one will cost you way more than 500€. Also I bet you don't wanna drive a minivan on a daily basis, but you rented one because you needed that much space.
It seems you didn't get my point, you get a better driving experience by shopping for what you need most of the time rather something that suits every need. And it will be cheaper also.
 
Because renting the 1% of the time you actually need something is a royal PITA.

And it isnt 1%. Its closer to 10%. Carrying things, towing something, driving outside your zip code, there are all common. A short range means more frequent charging, because you're only supposed to use 80-20% of your capacity anyway, and charging is expensive, and then you lose another 30% in the dead cold of winter. So that 300 mile range SUV (actually 260 on the highway where it matters) is only getting 130-150 in the winter. So now you have to change your plans and take a much longer route to find a charger because your range sucks and theres no charger where you are going.

I dont get why EV enthusiasts cant understand this, its really quite simple. Instead of complaining about why people want range, how about you focus on making cars with a longer range?

I can tell youve never owned an SUV if you think most things need a van. No. SUVs can carry a lot and the bigger ones can all tow trailers without issue for REALLY big things. Not to mention SUVs have way nicer, comfier seats, quieter interiors, and with a population of fat old aging people, a compact car isnt very desirable. Even in Europe the SUV is the biggest segment.
I didn't say most things need a van. What I said is that a van is more optimal for really moving stuff, regardless of how big a SUV you drive a van is just more suited for hauling stuff since that is what it is build for.
All cars can carry something, you do not need a SUV for the daily shopping. And as for range, there is of course some which often do long trips only most don't and with EV's it is not like with traditional cars - long range is costly to buy and it is costly in that it means the car is going to much heavier.
Also it is BS that a SUV necessarily has comfier seats, quieter interiors.. if you think you've driven the wrong cars. And laws of physics means smaller often drives better, they are easier to park, cheaper to run...

And finally doing what many/most do is supposed to be an argument?
 
Stopping to charge every 100 miles for a vacation that is 800 miles away isn't worth owning the car for!!
I think with this car you'd only have to stop once and probably for about 20 minutes. That's about the same as most petrol cars. Most EVs though give you 200-300 mile ranges which would mean a couple more stops. Maybe you have a superhuman bladder but I need to stop more often than that anyway.

Just think though, for the other 363 days of the year you'd only be paying about $6 to fill your "tank" at home. You'd also wake up with a full tank each day without queing up a gas stations. You'd also be saving $$$ on maintenance as most EVs require nothing more than a change of tyres.

As a side benefit you'd also find your country wouldn't be losing soldiers while taking the oil from other countries which in turn would mean less chance of aeroplanes or ballistic missiles hitting your cities in future. You might even breath better - 90k people die of pollution related deaths in America alone.

As for the lack of proper tactile controls, knobs, switches and dials, manufacturers still seem stuck in that 'wow look touchscreens - so high tech' phase before we realised that, while in theory, they look and seem like a cool idea, in practice they make an abysmal UX for a car, especially while you are driving.

It would be nice if auto industry came up with a standard for car control screens.
Something as a backup if the main screen fails. For example, a small low-res screen that is separated from the main screen. Even of the main screen dies completely, you would still easily use main functions of the car.
