The ASUS A7N8X-X / A7N8X / A7N8X Deluxe Thread

I am still working out the details with my local company. So far I am thinking of moving over to Samsung which is not as good but OCing isnt a concern and Ill get a little money back. Apparently they dont make 512 C25 Kingston or I would try doing that. They are supposed to give me a call today and let me know what they can do for me. They are also looking into the compatibility problem with the A7N8X to see if it is compatability or just faulty memory.

As far as compatability, I only had 2 in and it didnt work. I tried upping the voltage which helped a bit but also returned errors. So It very well could be that Kingston just had a bad batch of RAM, its hard to say.

Funny development...

The company said there wasnt a C25 model 512 dimm. I went to Kingston's website and found there was. I also see the C3 model listed as compatable with no astrixes or anything. When I brought it up to the company I was working with he said its because the A7N8X wasnt a good board and gave some lame excuse how I should move to MSI.

At first I thought they were trying to upsell me but in fact It would be cheaper to go to MSI for a crappier board. I am not sure what they are trying to do really. They said that they would give me the difference. I think in the end they had an issue returning the RAM although they wont admit it due to the inflated RAM prices since I first bought it (like 30 bucks cheaper when I bought it). They offered to take back the ASUS board (I think they were planning to just resell it) and pay me the difference.

These guys are so lame. They are going to contact Kingston again and try to get the RAM RMAd so I can just swap out the RAM. I am going to just try the C3 again. if it doesnt work then Ill they said they can swap for another brand if they have to but I have to do this first.

Ill let you know what happens.

Funny stuff! Crooks!

bus disconnect

Hi, I am having problems with my computer restarting. I think that it is because my cpu is overheating. I have the newest deluxe model of this mobo and I have a athlon xp +3000. Could it be because I do not have the bus disconnect enabled? Or would getting the latest drivers from nvidia help? I am going to replace my psu to see if that fixes it too.

Are you monitoring your temps with a software of some sort ? Asus Probe, Motherboard Monitor ?

Have you tried using the system with the case open ?

temp

I use asus probe and my regular cpu temp seems to stay at 49c and goes up to around 60 to 61c under heavy use. I have not taken my side off, but I have 6 fans in there plus my tornado 11+

Ok a bit more info.

The company slapped in the RAM into a test system and found the RAM works fine. However in the A78NX they cant get it to work unless they turned the timings down.

Also, I found out the reason they were acting wierd is because Kingston wouldn't take it back. Since they found it worked they are just going to put it into another system since it works and it still has most of the warranty with it. And I am getting another brand that they will test before giving it to me.

Let it be a warning that Kingston Value400 512 Latency 3 has issues with the A7N8X and wont run at full FSB 400 (200).

I have also a ASUS A7N8X deluxe motherboard!!!
I have buy a new western digital rapter 740GD but it didn´t work....
mabey it cant run whit one harddisk...???? is there anyone there know anything about that??? or can tell me something???

Check the Q-Fan settings in the BIOS setup. If enabled, it can make your CPU fan run at lower then nominal speeds.

It is still worth trying to use your system with the case open in order to remove the heat factor. If it still craches, it is thus not a heat problem.

Arclite, what seems to be the problem ? If the SATA controller is enable with the o,board jumper, after the POST, there will be a minute or two during which the SATA controller will detect SATA drives. Do you get a message saying that no hard-drives were found ?

re:temp

I have Q-Temp disabled. I also opened my case all last night and the temp did not change at all. When it was under heavy load it would stay at 55c and if I then ran another program after 30 minutes or so, sometimes longer, my computer would crash. Also when I run a power hungry game like UT 2004 my computer will crash after about an hour sometimes shorter and then allow me to restart and it will run fine.

I disabled automatic restart so that I could see the blue screen error and it seemed to be different each time my computer crashed.

Thanxs for your help.

try stress testing your computer. Monitor your power via Asus Probe, make sure it doesn't leave the 5% range. MDM has an issue with the board I have found so it will always error when it shouldnt so use Asus Probe.

Prime95 is a good stress tester, run the CPU test first for atleast 12 hours and if it passes run the "Blend" test to test your RAM. I had similar problems and it turned out to be my RAM (see above). If you suspect its the RAM run MemTest86+ doing all BIOS tests.

The board is a bit finicky so you have to be carefull to check everything. Hope this helps.

hey i was wondering if this mobo is actualy worth money . And if umm Geil golden dragon pc3200 (2x256) will run good in dual channel and if there are any other knowen problems

Hi guys, hope someone can help me on this - I currently use an Asus A7N8X-X mobo and some months back decided to route the mobo's audio through the computer cases front panel - in order to do this, I had to remove two jumpers from the front panel audio connectors but heres the rub - having just bought a 5.1 speaker set, I need to disconnect the cases front connectors to enable the three rear 5.1 connectors to work, I need to reinstall the two jumper pins to the mobo's front panel connectors to enable the rear connectors but the user guide does'nt indicate what the jumpers default position should be on the 9 pin audio array - can any a78nx-x owners tell me which pins they are connected to?

Hi I have 2x512 of Kingston 3200 ddr and another brand of 256 how would I put that into the deluxe edition of the board?

It would be better to simply install the two 512mb sticks, 1 stick in DIMM-Slot 1 or 2 & the 2nd stick in DIMM-Slot 3 (furthest from the socket).

When you don't have the same amount of memory on each channel, it causes a performance decrease. It's up to you to see if you really need that extra 256mb of Ram over the 3 / 5% performance increase a proper DualChannel setting can bring.

ALso the 1gb of ddr is the one you mentioned is not good but i haven't had any problems does it eventually occur?

Also if i put 1gb in the 1st channel would putting the 256 make my computer run as if it was slower then the 1gb?

Ugh, im almost embarresed to ask this, but im getting desperate.

This is my first board by Asus, ive always used Abit boards. After some bad experience with their RMA people, I just bought a A7N8X-X.

My problem is that I cant get it to power up. Ive got the big ATX connecter in, but theres a tall four pin connector whose slot I cant find. Its in a square shape, and always went right next to the ATX when I used the Abit boards. Everything else as far as I can tell is plugged in, so I have no clue why this thing wont power on.

Any ideas what im not doing right? Any ideas where this connector should go? Thanks for any help :)

the asus doesnt use the 4pin connector. i found this a bit odd aswell, but apparently they can take all their power straight from the standard connector.

does it do anything at all? is there a green LED when you switch the power supply on? if not try exchanging the power supply for another one that is known to work.

hope that helps :grinthumb

There is a LED lighting on the board when I turn the PSU on, but the PC itself wont boot. I press the power button and I get nothing. At this point I dont know what to do.

Thanks for the help though, its definatly gotten rid of one of the bigger bits of confusion :)

have you tried removing the battery to clear the cmos? what have you got connected to the board at the moment?have you tried unplugging everything except the graphics card to see if the bios will come up?

another thing (sorry if you find this insulting), is the board shorting on anything on its underside?

I havent tried clearing the cmos, ill try that.

Ive got just the basic components (vid card, HD, proccesor, one optical drive) and then some of the front panel connectors. Ill also try unplugging everything except the card.

Dont worry about insulting me, im aware of my limited knowlege, and any possible help is appreciated. I have checked under there, and I dont see anything it could be. Thats actually what happened to my last board. A screw somehow got knocked down there, and shorted the AGP.

Thanks again.

The problem has been solved (sorta.)

For some reason the connector for the power button doesnt work. I asked at a store thats semi-nearby, and they said try putting the reset into where the power button would normally connect. Its a pain, but it works. Turns out that the reason for the new MOBO was wrong to begin with, but thats another story...

Thanks for all your help :D

EDIT: Sorry about the double post, my usual messege board has a time limit on edits:rolleyes: . Im not used to adding things in hours after I post it

I have not had a problem with my ASUS mobo.. but a question... i bought a new case and it has fittings for four chassis fans... but as far as i can tell i can only hook up two fans to the mobo.. Can i Y-wire to more to the existing hookups or will that not be a good idea.. any ideas how many chassis fans the mobo can support? Ty for the help.. and I am new here btw.. lol

You can use as many Y connectors on fans as you'd like, as long as your power supply is up to par. Anything under 300W is iffy at best with today's power hungry video cards, cpus and ram amoung others.
