Because once you address poverty, you find that many of the “issues” you had tend to disappear…
It has EVERYTHING to do with privacy. How do you think a site will verify that you aren’t under 15? They will collect your id… and they will keep it… and then it will inevitably be hacked and available to everyone online.

We actually have a working system for that in Norway - it’s calles «BankID» - BankID is Norway’s digital ID system that lets users securely verify their identity online. It’s used for secure authentication and digital signatures across banks, public services, and private companies.
It doesn’t allow companies to access your information - it just sends an approval token to the site.
You need to be 16 to get access to BankID, so it would work on sites / services with a 16 year old age limit

Really? Look at the nations that have less poverty (like Norway which was mentioned above)… notice how they seem to have less of these issues?
Again, poverty and economic hardship is the root cause of many of society’s problems… it’s much harder to deal with but… it’s what we SHOULD be working on… social media is merely a symptom of a society gone off the rails… education, good parenting (which would be easier if parents didn’t have to work crazy hours to make ends meet) fixes that without any need for government intervention.

They don’t though they have about the same poverty rate as the EU, within 5% of the rate at least. It’s at about 12% and France is about 15% and Germany about 14%.
You realty don’t have a clue how the world works do you. Social media is extremely harmful to mental health regardless of income or economic prosperity. Would banning it solve all the worlds issues? No. Would it improve several things drastically with no other action? Yes.

They are WELL below the average poverty percentage of the EU...5% is a HUGE number!!! Since the actual percentage is around 10%... that's 50%!!! (math = 50% of 10 is 5!)...
Alas, I don't think you do... social media CAN be extremely harmful - it CAN also be extremely helpful. It's merely a tool - how you use it (and how you're TRAINED to use it) makes the difference. If we focused on education - and the elimination of poverty to make the education easier to implement - this could be solved in a generation... politicians don't like this, obviously, since they work in 4-year terms (or 5-6 depending on the nation).

They are harmful there’s no “can” about it. It is specifically engineered to maximise how harmful it is.

You need to read up on math and stats… 5% is a huge number when it comes to poverty percentages…and Norway vs Italy and Spain (not what I’d call “developing countries”!) is about 8%…
It isn’t harmful to EVERYONE though… only a small minority - and those people were probably at-risk anyways - and social media merely exacerbated the problem.

We've used it for the last 10 years or so - it has a heap of security layers. No system is perfect though, but it's at least as secure as any digital system can be..as it's used to access your bank, health information etc.

No need to talk about poverty levels in Norway tbh - it's not really possible to determine. If you're below the poverty line here (less than 32k USD in yearly income) you get alot of help from the state..You get "Bostøtte" (help to pay your rent), free dental, free kindergarden if you have kids - extra payments per kid you have etc.
We have a bunch of safety nets for those things...you won't be rich, but you won't go hungry either unless you spend your money on drugs instead of food - and even the drug addicts have places to go to get meals.

If our most critical ID system was hacked, they'd instantly shut it down and go to one of several backup solutions..It hasn't happened yet, and I pray it never will.

Not really - every single person has an "authenticator" token that is local, bound to the hardware ID of your device + two tokens that are cloud based - which means that unless you crack every single local token, spoof the hardware id as well as the two security layers of the two other tokens ...at the same time, it's hard to crack "the entire system"
It's more likely that a hack would not occure in the ID system, but by bypassing it entirely and focusing on site they're targetting..That has happened on some occasions where local server security has been trash - some companies forget that having your servers secure is just as important as having a secure login system.

Norway itself varied for 0.25% to over 12 depending on the metric and definitions used. It also depends on things like the median income, because Norway has a very compressed salary band the poverty on paper looks less than it is.
