Range is the stumbling block for electric vehicles. The article doesn't elaborate but I would not be surprised if they're working on a diesel hybrid. Use a small diesel to charge the main battery.

Diesel hybrids get incredible mileage and longevity. That's why the train industry switched to diesel-electric back in the 1920's.

The US EPA has effectively banned the sale of diesel hybrid automobiles. They also created regulations that made it difficult for auto companies to sell small pickup trucks. I used to be very pro EPA, until I discovered that the EPA is a shill for corporate interests.

Very true. China is the absolute world leader in manufacturing tech. And if it wasn't for the EPA and the Dept of Commerce, we would see this stuff in the US.

Aviation design values lightweight materials, so why install a power source that requires ultra-heavy lithium batteries? Sounds dumb. Just people with too much time on their hands jumping on the "carbon neutral" bandwagon.
