The world's largest iceberg is rapidly breaking apart and melting away

Well, we can just say this was the "Elon Musk" of icebergs already. And it went down exactly the same way...

Anyway, you people disappoint me. As computer technology enthusiasts, you should be the cream of the crop of humanity. The most intelligent type. Global warming isn't a "partisan" issue. It's just the planet frying humanity's future very, very slowly.

And yet, I still read this kind of "controversy" about a fact no moderately intelligent person in their sane mind would ever deny anymore. You disappoint me, really.

Oh, and please bear in mind that I will likely not engage in this "controversy" any further, because I'm part of the staff and I have to behave.

Almost as disappointing as seeing you say this in between ads for datacenter services.

Anyway, you people disappoint me.

That is a nice holier than thou condescending tone you are taking.

Global warming isn't a "partisan" issue. It's just the planet frying humanity's future very, very slowly.

How do you draw any "partisan" conclusions of NumberNine's comment?
He is calling out your hypocrisy of having this article on a site that promotes technologies that increase the carbon footprint. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

As computer technology enthusiasts, you should be the cream of the crop of humanity. The most intelligent type.

You have obviously never worked in IT.

This sounds like sarcasm. As a fan of technology myself AND an actual programmer, I don't think we are the most intelligent type. The most intelligent type is the people who focus on what they DON'T know. Science always includes assumptions after all, not just knowledge. When you start focusing on what you don't know, you realize you aren't that knowledgeable, no one around you is either, and you shouldn't blindly trust what people say.
Yeah, but I don't know what I don't know! In other words, there is knowledge out there that has yet to be discovered; nobody even knows what subject it is, much less the details. :joy:

Nobody said climate change isn't real, if it wasn't we'd be in a permanent ice age. What is a lie is man made climate change as the climate has always changed, or are you climate alarmists going to say that the past few billion years haven't happened and that only man has had an effect on the climate?
Actually, nearly every Trump supporter is claiming climate change isnt real because thats what talking head told them to say.

It gets said here all the time on techspot as well.

You're arrogant enough to claim "we have all the research done" and yet no wild prediction based on any of that research has ever come true 😂

Talk about arrogant? You make up a few things, and back them up with AEI?
Most people would be more inclined to believe billybubba.com than AEI.
A prediction of a 4-inch rise in water levels on costal Florida was wrong because it has only risen 3 1\2 inches? I would love to actually meet the nut jobs that write that stuff. I will check those though because, you know, facts. (I bet you hate that word)

So here is info you will soon forget, or, a Maga won't even read.
And feel free to compare your "sources" to mine:

And note, these sources might offend you.
Facts backed with studies and statistics.

But it’s awfully arrogant to assume that this MUST be correct when we have very little actual knowledge. Recorded human history is only a few thousand years
And you absolutely know the data goes back hundreds of thousands of years, and exactly how they do it, because I told you the last time you tried this smoke screen.
Yet the facts be damned style goes on. Unbelievable.

It's my understanding that the debate is whether there will be a disaster, how soon it might be, and how bad it might be. People who disagree about that part (not necessarily climate change itself) are typically called climate deniers anyways. So far, I don't think any place has become uninhabitable, though I'm sure there will be disagreements.

Right now here, yes, I agree thats the case. It is not always the case and climate deniers infect every one of these threads. Go ahead and search for the word "Climate" and look at the comments. Its exhausting.

You know you have too much time on your hands when you tag and name an iceberg. What's next, clouds?

People are opinionated morons, but also sheep. Scholars also fit this description, but with the convoluted belief that the knowledge they have amassed empowers them. Propaganda is profitable, but our ability to affect change is as limited as ever. Even with technology.

In UK these days we are being told to reduce or stop eating meat if we want to slow down the rate of global warning. Where do these nutters get their ideas?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Cows have a massive impact on the atmosphere. Its a well known issue.

Before North American bisons were hunted to near extinction there were tens of millions of them roaming the American and Canadian plains venting noxious gasses. Evidently those hunters were inadvertently saving the planet back then.
There is no reason to be a science denier. its not acceptable in 2025. Your comment is an embarrassing admission that you don't know what you are talking about. This hasnt stopped me from eating beef, but denying it is just ignorance in its purest form.

"Cattle are the No. 1 agricultural source of greenhouse gases worldwide. Each year, a single cow will belch about 220 pounds of methane. Methane from cattle is shorter lived than carbon dioxide but 28 times more potent in warming the atmosphere, said Mitloehner, a professor and air quality specialist in the Department of Animal Science."

"Livestock are responsible for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gases."

I guess you’re immune to humor…

(y) (Y) :D Thankfully, not many heavy emission industries and cars were around there back then.
Not to mention much, much more plant life.

Nah, that person is serious. Just like the rest of the climate deniers.
Damn I hope not because I just carried on the joke.
Nah man no way that was intended to be serious.

So you DO think that exterminating the bisons was a good call?
Does anyone? :D

Sure, and I have oceanfront property to sell you in Oklahoma.

But this time global cooling global warming climate change needs to be stopped by giving gov't more money and power, right?
Hmmm. The source for your argument is The American Enterprise Institute a conservative aligned organization? No wonder so many who think this is an authoritative organization have no understanding of science.

IMO, its fairly rare that people are able to say "I don't know."

If the sea levels are rising, then why did #44 pay tons of $$ for a beachfront house? :D

Could it be that #44's #2 became a multimillionaire via the stock market? Or was it by selling fear?

I admit there is much I do not know; but I am certain that the study grants mostly go to those scientists who predict doom & gloom rather than those who do not. We must find a way to prevent the end from coming!

Exactly... But people are more easily be misled because people will "share information" without really knowing. That's why but I think it's more important for people to research for themselves if they're really hearing the truth. And it's why we have to personally look into what the media reports a lot of times.

There have been so many times that I've found news articles report something confidently and it leaves out or misrepresents really important information. It happens most frequently when there's media bias and political topics involved, and so some topics basically ALWAYS need to be fact checked.

I'm 44 years old. Lived in NY all my life - minus some life abroad. Years ago I bought a snowblower. I maybe used it 2 Winters in a row. Haven't had to use it for at least the last 5 years. When we do get snow it's minimal and thin.

for my time abroad in Asia, most people I've met there claim it's hotter than they've ever seen in their long lives.

While thermodynamics would say the Earth is slowly freezing inside-out, common sense would show definitely indicate the atmosphere is warming and between human population's rise and the increase use of fossil fuels, as well as the increasing intensity and severity of storms. you'd have to be completely insincere to think that climate change isn't real.

But let's say you don't believe in Global Warming... The governments do.

I went to Maldives and Seychelles on vacation and they literally are claiming their islands are being drowned. A tour guide in Soneva Fushi pointed that out to me. One in Mahe did as well.

Ice bergs are melting. What more do you want?
Same. We used to have huge winter storms every single year. Now? We DONT even have snow anymore. Its kind of amazing really. I havnt seen snow in my city for the last 10 years. Yeah, this planet is changing and I cant be conviced that its not. I see our biggest snowy mountains being all empty too. In the winter. Insane. Other towns that used to have 1-2 meters of snow... now got thin 1 inch layer at best lol. Like a snow blanket. I fail to see how people can deny anything, and yeah. We got summers 45C +... 45 is insanely hot for Europe. 5 more and its a desert. Dont people have eyes? Do they live in their houses and never go out? I just dont get it. Water levels seems to be the same, or at least I dont really pay attention to that.. but heat/cold/seasons are all ruined. Its all going to hell and fast.

P.s. The weather reports are also a good proof. Showing on each day, how cold it used to be in the winter vs today. Insane difference. Negative 5-15 vs PLUS/positive 10-20. MADNESS. I can go with a shirt outside during the peak of the winter. At times. 10C is still very cold of course.
