Today is July 31 and that can only mean one thing: it’s System Administrator Appreciation Day! Not familiar with SysAdmin Day? Read on to find out all about it.

SysAdmin Day was created by, you guessed it, a system administrator (Ted Kekatos, for those curious) as a day to show appreciation for system admins and other IT professionals. The international celebration is traditionally held on the last Friday in July and is in its 16th year.

In recent years, SysAdmin Day has become more than just a funny tech culture reference. As The Register points out, there are a number of contests and deals running today in celebration.

Netwrix is hosting a worldwide contest in which it’s offering twenty $25 ThinkGeek gift certificates. System admins just need to submit a story about what bums them out about work to be eligible. Once done there, head over to Manage Engine to enter their contest where twenty (notice a trend here?) $20 Amazon gift cards are up for grabs.

Spiceworks is once again running its annual 12 days of Sysmas while the Thwack community is giving away an Nvidia Shield Pro and a gaming chair as part of its month-long celebration. SoftinventiveLab, meanwhile, is offering 20 percent off purchases through August 14.

It’s worth pointing out that some of these contests started earlier in the month and are thus winding down. If you want to try and win, I’d get to it ASAP!
