UFC 200 will be the first pay-per-view to stream in 4K

UFC 200, the mixed martial arts promotion’s biggest fight card in history, takes place this Saturday at the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Despite its headlining unification bout between champion Daniel Cormier and former champ Jon Jones being scrapped a mere three days out, UFC 200 will be significant in that it’ll be the first pay-per-view event in history to stream live in 4K quality.

DirecTV will carry the event on the 4K channel it launched back in April. To watch, DirecTV subscribers will need to be enrolled in one of the company’s two most expensive programming plans – Ultimate or Premiere – which start at $91.99 and $144.99 a month, respectively. What’s more, you’ll need a Genie HR54 HD DVR and of course, a 4K capable television.

The PPV will command $64.95 in 4K, a five dollar increase over the HD broadcast at $59.95 and $15 more than the standard definition stream.

Digital media company NeuLion, who is in charge of providing the 4K stream, said it’ll also be available to those with a 2015 or 2016 Sony HDR Ultra HD television set in the US and Canada. Roy Reichbach, president and CEO of NeuLion, said that to be the first company, with UFC, to deliver a UFC event, and particularly UFC 200, in 4K, live, to consumers is a huge milestone for them.

On Wednesday night, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) informed Jones of a potential anti-doping violation from an out-of-competition sample collected on June 16. Since there isn’t enough time for a full review before Saturday’s fight, the bout has unfortunately been pulled from the card. The co-main event between Mark Hunt and Brock Lesnar has been bumped to the headliner.

Even without the main event at UFC 200, MMA fans have plenty to look forward to over the coming days courtesy of a trilogy of events.

UFC Fight Night 90 takes place later this evening and will air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass, the promotion’s subscription-based video streaming service. The following night, the UFC is hosting The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale live from Las Vegas which will air on Fox Sports 1 followed by UFC 200 on PPV this Saturday.

Companies like TWC cannot send a true 1080 signal. OTA looks massively superior. Especially with movement like Olympics water or confetti after an event, etc. Since when are they now capable of 4k without it being a block show?

Stinks that Jones just got pulled.
I'll be streaming this for free! Don't care about the quality but I like how 4K content is becoming more mainstream.

Yeah I'm pretty upset he got pulled too, but I knew he'd Fook up again. I hope its the final nail in his coffin cause he's old news and doesn't appear to want to change his ways.
