Unrecognized file extension

I have two files from my Kodak dig camera that are not recognized by my computer. The properties dialog box shows the File Type as: JP_ File (.JP_).
What is this, and can I change it - if so, how?

I would suggest trying to change the underscore to a "G" as to make it a JPG, really not sure why your camera is saving files in that kind of and extension. Make a backup of the original file before you change the extension.

This extension only appears in the properties box, and I don't know how to change it there. When I try to do a rename, there is no extension shown and if I add ".jpg" then the properties still shows the ".JP_" at the end.

In XP (but similar to others)
Open any folder > Select Tools > Folder Options > View
Then deselect "Hide extensions for known file types" > Apply

Then try renaming the file to filename.JPG
