Inactive Unwanted mcafee and other malware

McAfee virus protection has somehow automatically installed itself on my computer, penetrating all of my browsers and not allowing me to close the program. I have a paid AVG prescription, however, it seems to be taking a backseat to this unwanted McAfee program. Along with this, I just fear there are other malware programs running in the background of my computer. Thanks for all of your help.

Why don't you uninstall McAfee?
GMER log is missing.

McAfee will not allow me to uninstall it. When uninstall is tried, the message: "McAfee Agent cannot be removed while it is in a managed mode" appears and disallows uninstall.
I clicked the links for the GMER program and the pages did not load.
