usb mouse problem

Everytime I start/reboot my PC my usb mouse has to be unplugged and plugged back in and detected. It's an optical wired mouse almost new. What do you think causes this?

Windows XP SP2
Dell 2400
2.4 Celeron 256 Ram. 40 GB HD

Could be a failing USB port. Plug it into a different USB port and see if you get the same problem.

They all act the same. I have to still take out the connector and plug it back in.

Use the PS2 connector and/or replace the mouse.

So you think it's the mouse? I just got it from newegg 2 months ago. It works fine on my laptop. ????/

It could be...with the price of them so low it makes sense to go that way. I also think it's a waste to run a USB mouse, that's what the PS2 port is for.
JMHO.
p.s. I just got a Logitech cordless and i like it a lot.30 bucks on sale.
