Use headset with soundcard

Hi,

I recently got a new sound card. Just some low end creative X-FI card. Anyways this renders my cases front jacks useless. So I decided to buy some new speakers.

When I want to use headphones I simply plug it into the speakers directly. I then decided I should get a headset for gaming. But my problem is because I have to connect through the speaker system I wont be able to use the mic. Would it be better to opt for a desktop microphone or is there some sort of work around?

Ok I figured out you need to take the front jack cable and plug it into the sound card. But when I plug in my headphones to the front of my PC no sound comes out. The drivers recognize the headphones are there. But no sound. Anyone got any ideas?
