All my *.exe`s files and *.dll files have been deleted from my games
directory. This directory is on a seperate hard drive to my operating
system and was about 70gigs worth of games. Now i will have to
re install everthing.Im running windows 2000 with the last service update and this has never happened before.

i have run a virus scan on all my drives but have no viruses, plus my
virus scanner is always on and up to date.any idea how this could
    have happened,very anoying

    cheers gaz

It seems to me as something malicious. You could try a data recovery tool to try and get your .exe's back.

Have you run a cleaner type program recently?ie Ashampoo etc?
These go for .dll files. they normally do a backup, so you could restore them if thats the case

    thanks for the replys.

i have run reg mechanic and norton windoctor last week as my
win 2k seemed to take ages booting, but i have used some of
the programes that have been affected since.

what baffles me is there are othe folders that are not in the
games directory that have not been affected though they are
on the same hard drive.there was about 20 seperate retail
games in my games directory and all had the *exe and *.dll
deleted.luckily i still have most of them so i can reinstall, but its
very anoying and will take ages.

I took the advise from someone on another forum and ran
a virus scanner called found three viruses

strange that norton anti virus didnt find these, i keep my virus
    deffinitions up to date.

    cheers gaz
