Videos Wont Play

I just upgraded my system to a amd athlon 4200+ dual core, along with motherboard and new graphics card. I performed a fresh install of windows and updated all drivers. Now windows wont play video files at all, none. Ive tried updating again, with no results Ive also tried codecs and other media players but nothing works at all. the media player will generallt attempt to open the file and become unresponsive, sucking up 100% cpu usage. Please help.. this is driving me nuts... On a side note this is the second install since the new hardware. on the first one I couldnt play high intensity video games, upon fresh install that was fixed,
