Weekend Open Forum: What GPU is in your system?

I bought a gaming rig last july with evga sli 780tis superclocked no problems with heat or noise and they kill everything I throw at them just love and see no need to replace for years if ever as I am a casual gamer and am 57 so they will go for a long time I think.

you must have a problem with your card I have sli 780tis there is no noise just normal noise under load and temps are good so I would get it checked and replace if it needs to be.

Yeah, it does look like he needs a replacement. Aside from that, I'm of the same opinion on the Nvidia control panel. It's very lacking compared to AMDs.

true about the nvidia control panel but iguess there is always a trade off my mate bought my old rig in 2012 it has a 5850 amd card in it and it is still going strong he wants to get a new card but as he says it does all he needs in a card playing WOW alot we both do but I got a few offline games Tomb raider 2013 and others my cards cruise playing them but I always thought AMD gave more leeway with drivers only reason I got Nvidia was some games played better with them rather than AMD cards so who knows.

Mike, let's look at this rationally. Should that really be all just one big run on sentence?

I was out of breath just reading it. God only knows what would happen if someone tried to read it aloud.

I have a Cooler Master Storm Trooper case, MSI Z97 Gaming 7 mobo, 8GB GSkill ripjaws X, Intel core i7 4790k, and a pitiful miserable wothless Radeon HD 5770 poisoning my entire rig with its shabby useless self. It is an embarrassing abomination in my otherwise beastly rig. I am ashamed.

...unt how long have you felt zis vay? ;)
Far too long Doctor, far too long. 6 months ago I was computing with a used .... cyberpower. DDR2, Pentium, the case fan was held on by only jiggly rubber grommets which had decayed so with age that one day they cracked and the fan went on a rampage in my case during a choppy session of System Shock 2. I almost wept.

I confess then I began ordering parts online. A gaming mobo with a Tron style light pipe to keep my audios crisp and punchy. It even says gaming on the board. The MSI logo makes my ish look like a Ferarri, all glowing and shiny. My metallic red ripjaws beg for my sweet hand bloods. My PSU is hefty, my case is a sublime obelisk far too large for my cheap 6 year old walmart computer desks frail and tiny workspace. My CPU I keep idle at a cool 4.0ghz. Its... a semi-giver.

But I ran out of $$$ before I could get a GPU.

Sometimes I just stare at it. I imagine what it will be like to open the case, and with a sneer, carefully remove its cancer from my beast, allowing its full potential to rize and grow more powerful still until we : together cannot be turned away from AAA titles and obscene system requirements. It is a marvelous vision.

Is that healthy? lol

Haha, best post I have read in a while! Made my monday.
But I feel you man, had a similiar situation a while back.

EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti SSC

Eyeing on Radeon R9 270X and GTX 960 for an upgrade which is due soon.

Sapphire Xtreme HD5850 1GB (windows)
XFX HD5670 512MB (HTPC)
MSI R6850 (HD6850) 1GB (Linux)

You would have made a fine knight of the realm during the middle ages. No grail quest, it matters little how ill conceived or futile, would have been beyond the scope of your divine affliction.

So, you've gone beyond magnificent obsession, to the hinterlands of singularly and gloriously affected mono maniacal devotion.

Not exactly healthy, but probably par for the course within this generation.

So, you're OK to return to work. Which BTW, might help you with buying a new video card.

A boring tech version of the David Carradine Effect?
I'm thinking more like Kelly Ripa with a snoot full of coke.

Picture it on an airplane. Just as the speaker blurts out the final syllables, the oxygen masks drop down.:D

But like David Carradine, I HUNG in there long enough to finish it...;)
OK, I haven't resorted to Google yet, and hence the Hung Fu reference is going over my head.

Still on a 670gtx works for every game I am playing atm but I do have plans to upgrade to 960 slis as I am well overdue an upgrade its just I want to spend money on traveling the world which doesn't come cheap (cyprus, Eygpt, NewYork, Peru all in 12 months) but then I suppose a couple of 970s is pocket change in comparison

Did have a MSI Gaming 970 4GB, but gave that one to my wife's system, and I got a GTX Gaming 980 4GB. Both are fantastic and incredibly fast cards. Super cool, and super quiet. My 980 runs BF4 on Ultra on my ASUS 2560x1440p monitor and maintains around 80FPS. Looks stunning and runs smooth as silk.

I recently switch from AMD to Nvidia and bought a GTX 970 and I'm very disappointed, the control Panel is horrible, but I can live with that; my main complain is how hot this card gets and how noise it is, it even has coil whine. Performance wise is a good card and I manage to set a custom fan and temperature limit profile so that it could run cooler with less noise. It's a shame, Nvidia cards were supposed to be better, but it's just a myth

Dude you have a bad card then and need to RMA if your 970 is ruinnng hot. Even Mercedes makes a lemon now and then. You prob just got a bad one.

I have three systems right now, one with an MSI R9 290, and the second with a MSI GTX 970, and a third with MSI 980 and all things being equal running BF4 the 290 will be around 80C with fans at 50%. and the 970 is at 68C with fans at 50%. Plus the 970 and 980 are completely silent but you can hear the 290s fans whirring.

Dont get caught up in the AMD vs Nvidia thing though. I use both makes and enjoy them both. I love AMD rig with the 290 and a FX 9590 proc.

Oh yes I do realize that but like you said im waiting to do a full upgrade when DDR4 is cheaper and Intel comes out with their skylake or skymont chip, basically waiting to do a full rebuild so will be another couple years yet.

Current main machine is using Gigabyte GTX 670. My old machine is using GTX 270. The other graphic cards I have had are 8800GT, 7900GS, 7600 GT, and Ti200. Thinking about upgrading to 970 4GB :D
