AVG detected Win32/Alureon along with numerous other trojans & viruses. There were 8 files shown as Alureon derivatives with titles indicating it had infiltrated anti virus s/w ( avg, Super antispyware, exterminate it). Cant update any anti virus program. When I reboot Windows tells me that Windows needs to be activated -when I try to activate it, the activation screen comes up but the 'Next' button is grayed out so I cant do anything about activating Windows. Also an alien file has appeared in startup namely 'lmr.exe'.
Have run AVG, Microsoft malware remover, Superantispyware, Exteminate it -all find some thing but cant eliminate the main prob.
Attached is Hijack this log

After 8 step virus removal

Hi Broni
I followed the 8 step program. Did a full scan with AVG-Scan.Removed what was found to the vault. Ran TFC.
I checked Adobe- at 9.3.2 which is up to date. Checked Java- at 6.20 which is up to date. Windows XP on my machine is SP3 but I cant get updates as this virus is giving a false indication to Microsoft as to the status of my XP - mine is genuine but when Microsoft do a verification it is reported as non genuine.
Ran Malwarebytes AntiMalware- log attached.
Ran GMER- Problem. Ran this twice & it locked up my system at the point of saving the log file both times. Cant supply the log sorry.
Ran DDS- both the DDS & Attach logs are attached as well.
While using the PC AVG keeps finding trojans & viruses-some of which cant be moved to the vault as they are reported as inaccessible. Some are located in 'restore' files.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Your HJT version is outdated, so...

Download HijackThis:
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.4
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

After Combofix & Hijackthis run

Hi Broni
Downloaded new copies of ComboFix & HiJackThis.
Ran both - Logs attached.
I have been able to re-activate Windows.
Thnx 2wartz

You're running two AV programs, Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG.
One of them has to go.
If AVG (preferable), make sure to use AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
