==== End Of File ===========================

I'm seeing Backdoor Trojans and other malware, but not Sirefef or Zero Access- so far. You are not mentioning the reboot problem caused by some variants, so let's see what Combofix can help us out with:

Please note: If you have previously run Combofix and it's still on the system, please uninstall it. Then download the current version and do the scan: Uninstall directions, if needed
  • Click START> then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
--------------------------------------

  • Download Combofix from HERE or HEREand save to the desktop
    • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • If prompted for Recovery Console, please allow.
    • Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    • Note: If Combofix was downloaded to a flash drive, the Recovery Console will not install- just bypass and go on.[/b]
    • Note: No query will be made if the Recovery Console is already on the system.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Before you run the Combofix scan, please disable any security software you have running.
(If you need help with this, please see HERE)
  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware
  • If Combofix asks you to update the program, allow
  • When the scan completes , a report will be generated-it will open a text window. Please paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply..
Re-enable your Antivirus software.
Note 1:Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Note 2:If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", restart the computer.
Note 3:CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficultyand terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Question:
I see this entry> 2012-07-06 13:28:07 138120 ----a-w- C:\ESET.exe
And I see Eset Nod32 AV and SP> but I don't see it in the list of installed programs. How is it that you have a directory set up with just the executable?
=============================================
I would also like you to run the online Eset virus scan:

To run the Eset Online Virus Scan:
If you use Internet Explorer:
  1. Open the ESETOnlineScan
  2. Skip to #4 to "Continue with the directions"

If you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer
  3. Open Eset Smart Installer
[o] Click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.exelink and save to the desktop.
[o] Double click on the desktop icon to run.
[o] After successful installation of the ESET Smart Installer, the ESET Online Scanner will be launched in a new Window
  4. Continue with the directions.
  5. Check 'Yes I accept terms of use.'
  6. Click Start button
  7. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    esetonlinescannersettings_thumb.jpg
  8. Uncheck 'Remove found threats'
  9. Check 'Scan archives/
  10. Leave remaining settings as is.
  11. Press the Start button.
  12. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please wait for the scan to finish.
  13. When the scan completes, press List of found threats
  14. Push Export of text file and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Paste this log in your next reply.
  15. Push the Back button, then Finish
NOTE: If no malware is found then no log will be produced. Let me know if this is the case.

Please leave both logs in your next reply.

Thanks Bobbye. I am going by what ESET is telling me the trojans were. I do not have any rebooting problems, but google was redirecting links when I first discovered this was on my computer (7/6/12) Screenshot of log: http://I.imgur.com/f7Q2n.jpg

The eset.exe in C: was what I renamed their Sirefef scan tool so I could find it easily. It says it can't find anything when I run it though. Also, I disabled eset's real time scanning but combofix said it was still running. I nuked it with task manager before combofix ran. Combofix appears it cleaned everything, but when eset's online scanner was running, they came up again under a different folder C:\Qoobox. I guess that's Combofix's quarantine?

All the Sirefef is handled, AFP520!

Any more issues?

We need to know any other issues that are plaguing your computer. Kindly give a summary so we know how to continue from here.

Many of the things to note for us would be:

  • Slow computer
  • Error messages
  • Fake antivirus alerts or the icon in the system tray
  • svchost.exe running at 100%
  • System crashes or blue screen of death

All seems to be going well, no additional errors. Thank you both very much for your quick help to fix this problem. I will be telling everyone how great you were.

Thanks.

We're almost done. Please do the following to finish cleaning up.

Clean up System Restore

Now, to get you off to a clean start, we will be creating a new Restore Point, then clearing the old ones to make sure you do not get reinfected, in case you need to "restore back."

To manually create a new Restore Point
  • Go to Control Panel and select System and Maintenance
  • Select System
  • On the left select Advance System Settings and accept the warning if you get one
  • Select System Protection Tab
  • Select Create at the bottom
  • Type in a name I.e. Clean
  • Select Create
Now we can purge the infected ones
  • Go back to the System and Maintenance page
  • Select Performance Information and Tools
  • On the left select Open Disk Cleanup
  • Select Files from all users and accept the warning if you get one
  • In the drop down box select your main drive I.e. C
  • For a few moments the system will make some calculations:
    diskcleanup1.png
  • Select the More Options tab
    moreoptions.png
  • In the System Restore and Shadow Backups select Clean up
    moreoptions2.png
  • Select Delete on the pop up
  • Select OK
  • Select Delete

Run OTC to remove our tools

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created, please do the following:
Please download OTC.exe by OldTimer:
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTC.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.
Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.

Purge old temporary files

Please download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start
button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp
files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute
or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Security Check

Please download Security Check by screen317 from SpywareInfoforum.org or Changelog.fr.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Tell me in your next reply, if you have completed these tasks:
  • Cleaned System Restore
  • Ran OTC
  • Ran TFC
  • Ran Security Check
Also, please post the Security Check log for my review.

Hello. Are you still with us?

Your thread has been marked as "Inactive" because of your lack of reply. Please let us know how your computer is running, or if you want to continue in this topic.

Thanks.
