Windows media player sounds problems

Do you have the proper audio driver software installed?

It could also be your DVD drive. (but less likely).

I put a movie in the other day, couldn't get sound, cycled the player tray, and all of a sudden, "let there be sound". And I heard the sound, and verily it was good.

TS should probably let us know what OS is in his machine. WMP in XP, has NO codec for DVD-Video.

Windows Vista only has DVD-Video codec in WMP at "Vista Home Premium" and above.

Windows 7 has DVD-Video codec in all versions. (Unless this is some sort of net book, in which case you're s*** out of luck).

Interesting, I did not know that.
