Same. But the statement by bandit is also true.not any that I use. There are options out there if one is forcing you.
I havent found it forced YET. I say YET.Same. But the statement by bandit is also true.
I managed to block all updates to store apps and the store iself.
It is completely non functional. (W10pro) I finally succeded in getting rid of it Feb 9th 2025. Since then not a single update, warning, message. as if it weren't there.
The better software companies don't want to be bothered with MS store, so it's not a problem for me either - yet. Some (or just one?) are forced. NVCP. But aslong as it's installed before using a variety of Group Policies, Permission changes (always risky I was careful) and other tinkering It stays. Fully functional. There are ways of getting the CP if it gets deleted, usually by DDU. I use it almost everyday. (NVCP for individual game tweaks mainly.)
Properly getting rid of the store is probably not that hard on W10. It was hard for me though because I challenged myself to do it without a tutorial. It's really nice, and DOES make a differerence to using Windows. The store can't connect. It's not even visible.
I have no idea if this could be achieved with W11. Probably, but I imagine it would be hard.
EDIT: Forgot to say. I have ZERO store app. Although I use the Nvdia control panel which is supposed to recieved from the store. As above, it's irrelevant though.
Well, I fully agree with you. I used the word "yet," (3rd paragraph) because I wouldn't put anything past MS.I havent found it forced YET. I say YET.
Even the dump analyzer, you can download the non store version. There are often downloads available for everything outside of the store. The store is just a "convenient" way for folks without any knowledge of how to download an application safely to use.
Im not saying it wont be forced someday, but with how things are now, its a non issue.
Oh im not arguing and I know we are talking the same language. Just talking.Well, I fully agree with you. I used the word "yet," (3rd paragraph) because I wouldn't put anything past MS.
As of now it's good, and yes, I view the store in the same way you do.
I wasn't clear enough I suppose. Because we are saying the same thing. It is a non issue now.
But there is no certainty that it will stay that way.
Luckily MS would have to strong arm a lot of large companies to force them to use the store. Plus there are potetial compatability issues. Adding the Store as a "step," to the program can only cause problems.
Thinking about it, it's unlikely to happen in totality, possibly for ever? I hope so!!
Edit: My example of the NVCP was probably the worst possible. We are supposed to use the store for it, but it's not hard to get the NVCP without the store. That is the only one I have found, and it does't really force us to use the store.
Oh, sorry, I wasn't really sure.Oh im not arguing and I know we are talking the same language. Just talking.
I havent found a single instance where the store is forced as the downloads are available elsewhere. Seems you are in the same boat.
I have NVCP and didnt get it from the store.
And yes, there is a huge YET. Its possible, but really I think only for MS specific products. I dont see a 3rd party relying solely on the MS store. It would only hurt their footprint.
