Windows Start Up Problem

note: I have the latest updates for Windows XP

I have this problem where that everytime I turn on my computer when i get to the log on screen I get around 5-10seconds to choose or else my computer will reset. Once I have made my selection, if I choose my primary account, when loading it, it will also restart. The only way I can get onto my primary account is to choose the other user account quick enough, then log off that and back onto the primary one. I have no idea whats wrong or how to go about finding the problem.

If anyone could give me some assistance it would be greatly recieved, many many thanks.

Have you recently installed any new software? If so then try reinstalling it.
Have you recently installed any new hardware? If so then check the drivers.
Always take these steps first for problems like this.

Hope this helps!

No new hardware installed, I did install a couple of pc tune up type programs which I subsequently changed what started on start up and tidied the registry. But I have now uninstalled them and have set everything back to what it was like before. Still the problem persists, pretty frustrating having to logging in and out of different profiles to get the computer started.

Many thanks
