Got a BSOD stop:0x0000007f problem. My laptop was still operating with Windows xp-sp2 and had no major problem until I was updating IE7 with IE8. After IE8 installation, I could NOT make internet connection. Soon I was looking for the cause and cleaned up some files according to ad-ware recommendations. It still did not work, and I decided to re-install with sp2 package. This was the time that started to show up BSOD stop:0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) error every time I am trying to start my computer up. Safe mode could not be run. I have mindump file if anyone needs.

I found a suggested resolution on the SYmantec website.

Blue screen with "STOP 0x0000007f" error on Windows 2003/XP/2000NT
(service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2002071208532048?Open&src=w)

I followed Symantec's procedure exactly including restarting Symantec Ativirus program. I used ERD Commander 2003 from the Super WinPE plus 2004 CD to modify the register file.
The problem after following the procedure is follows:
1) if computer restarts from ERD boot up, the modified register file is still there in the current register file.
2) if computer restarts as normal boot up (stuck at BSOD), the original register file is copied from somewhere (I think). The modified register parameter is gone.

My question is:
1. Did anyone fixed his problem with this procedure?
2. Do you know what makes to copy back the original register file into the modified one? Where THE original or backup file is at?
3. Do you have any sugguestion what to look?

Thanks in advance,
jkim315.

Hi Tmagic650,
ERD is emergency recovery disk, if I'm remembering correctly, and part of Super WinPE plus 2004.
I gave up on this problem yesterday and am re-installing windows since I had no idea and didn't get any sugguestion.
Thanks, jkim315.

Hi Tmagic650,
Yes. But this one is the pre-install software that is limited time option. I had a corporation version which I wouldn't install it.
