Windows XP rebooting to black screen

Hi Guys,

I just bought a new laptop and wiped Windows 7 from the disk and installed XP. (I am running some very old software which I bought the laptop for and the drivers for the associated hardware have a few issues in Windows 7).

However, I have a strange problem. Whenever I restart the computer, after the Windows XP loading screen it just goes black and I can't see anything! But then when I turn it off and turn it back on again, it loads in fine.

What could be the issue?

How long have you had the laptop before you wiped it clean and installed XP? Could it have been doing that since you bought it? I would try to update the bios first. If that doesn't fix it then it could be video or inverter related. Hard to say. Did you install the newest chipset drivers?
