I bought a 300 GB Western Digital hard drive and I have windows XP. Without SP2 installed My Computer shows the drive with only 127 GB capacity. I called Microsoft and they said to download SP2, so I did... but my computer still won't read the other 173 GB. Any help here would be much appreciated.

It's Windows XP professional with all updates and SP2, not 64 bit edition and the Hard Drive is 300 GB Western Digital UDMA 133..don't know if that was necessary...but you never know.

what size does the drive show up as in the bios? you may need a bios update or patch. most manufacturer's include such a patch in their hard drive diagnostics software.

sounds like windows having a bit of a conflict with the drive size.or maybe the jumper settings wrong.
