The idea of getting work done from a Chromebook seemed unlikely when my editor first asked me about reviewing one. Much to my surprise, a browser-based operating system isn't as boxed in as I thought it would be, while $200 worth of hardware isn't as underwhelming as I expected for everyday performance.

This actually makes Chromebooks seem like a viable option for something cheap and ultra-portable but still capable of doing a bit of work. Good read.

And that's a fairly objective report on what it's like to use a really cheap Chromebook. The aesthetics improve dramatically with something like the Asus C302CA. ($460)

Yes, main storage is soldered. USB/SD were mentioned, but that's not internal storage, no one is debating that.

I've been using a Chromebook for the last 2 years and haven't looked back (Asus Flip C100). Already planning my next Chromebook purchase. Waiting for codename 'Eve' to drop! I can't wait.

See, these chromebooks are what laptops should be. Repairable, simple, fuctional with a variety of ports.

I wish you could spec these out with more storage/RAM, then they would be perfect mobile linux machines.
