XP and 2000 install problem- keyboard dead

Keyboard dead during the installation of XP and 2000. First tried to install XP and when it get to the part on the blue screen where it asks for <enter> to continue, <esc> to cancel, etc. the keyboard is dead. Unable to continue with the install.
Then tried to install 2000 and the keyboard died at the same screen.

Im installing the complete version,not an upgrade, on to a newly formated disk.

The keyboard OK up to that point because I tried hitting the a function key when it asks if 3rd party sw is need to be installed and it takes the entry.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Is your keyboard connected via ps2 or usb?

Just because one of the function keys works does not mean that your keyboard is ok.
Can you try a different keyboard that you know works?

Its a ps2.

I know the keyboard works. I can 98 with no problem.

Sorry mate but for the life in me I can`t think what else it could be other than possibly a faulty ps2 socket.

Maybe someone else will think of something.

Check in the BIOS for a PS/2 switch. set it to 'auto' or 'automatic' rather than 'enabled'.
