They may have elected Hamas, but a people, civilians, are not responsible for what their government does
Then who is? They elected them. They gave them power to lead. And when hamas acted against their best interest they failed to even protest against them. I think there was only one small protest against hamas in gaza this year and soon after several of the protestors were killed and their families harassed, because god for bid anyone disagreeing with hamas.

Sorry, but because of that I have zero sympathy for palestinian people living in gaza. Somehow other palestinians living in Isreal, Jordan, Egypt etc can act and function as normal people in their societies. I also distinctly remember palestinians in gaza burning US flags after 9/11.

Who for years fired rockets into Israeli cities? It was palestinians.
Meanwhile Israel provided them with food, water, electricity and people from gaza went to work in Israel. Israel tried to live with them, but after Oct. 7 it was clear it was not going to work and the gloves came off.
nor can the IDF's relentless bombing of the Strip, killing women, children, and men, or the shooting going on at "aid" sites, be justified by any species of reasoning,
The first casualty of war is the truth. IDF does not reveal casualty statistics and those released by palestinians themselves are certain to be exaggerated to garner sympathy from the lefties in the west. I remember when this started and they claimed Israel bombed a hospital and 1000 people supposedly died. Later it was found out that is was not 1000 and the rocket that landed there malfunctioned on it's way to Israel and was fired by hamas themselves.

Those who commit crimes are responsible for those crimes: Netanyahu's administration and the IDF for the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians; and those who killed Israelis and others on 7 October 2023. Whether Palestinians failed to protest against Hamas or not does not make them targets for killing.

It's your right who to have or not have sympathy for. If we are to talk about those other things, one has to look at what happened historically: the flight and expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in 1948, the Israeli occupation, the blockade of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli apartheid against them, and so on.

A study in "The Lancet" showed that there was under-reporting in 2024. At any rate, there is daily proof pouring out of Gaza of what has happened and is happening: it is getting worse. As for the bombing of hospitals, schools, etc., the IDF has done that. These are facts according to the world's reliable sources. If one denies that, I don't know what to say.
