The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have more going on than their similar outward appearance suggests. Even more pro-level camera features, serious gaming power, and long-overdue freedom from the proprietary Lightning cables make this a significant upgrade over last year’s phone.

The iPhone 15 Pro is the one to get if you want a powerful flagship but you want to easily use it with one hand. Not only is the titanium design stronger and lighter, Apple made the design smaller with slimmer bezels. You also get very strong cameras with night mode and portrait improvements, blazing performance from the A17 Pro chip and a smart Action button. Too bad only the iPhone 15 Pro Max gets the longer 5x zoom.

As much as I hate to suggest spending more, if you're going to buy a Pro iPhone this year, the Pro Max is what I'd go for with its beefier battery and the 5X zoom camera. The question is do you need a Pro iPhone or Apple's latest? You can try to find the iPhone 14 Pro at other retailers for a cheaper price. Unless you're all in on USB-C. If so, the convenience is worth spending more.

The 15 Pro is far from a breakthrough. Android phone owners have been enjoying the flexibility of USB-C for years. You’ll also find phones with more zoom, better multitasking capabilities, and a smarter assistant on the other side of the walled garden. But this is the first time these features are all coming together on an iPhone, and it’s an important moment if you’re firmly rooted in the iOS ecosystem, as many people are.

Apple's new iPhone Pro models have been improved across the board. They're better in almost every way, and the new USB-C port is a very welcome addition. The design changes aren't very flashy, and battery life hasn't improved, but these are still excellent phones.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are defined by their refinements. This pair of phones is one of the most compelling releases from Apple in years.
