OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid 100GB Review

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid 100GB Review
  • Posted October 31, 2011, 10:31 PM by Steven Walton | Filed in TechSpot, Hardware
  • For years we have maintained that the single most important upgrade you can make to an enthusiast-grade machine is adding an SSD for your operating system and applications. The key downside to SSD technology is its cost per gigabyte, which is significantly higher than traditional mechanical hard drives.

Hoping to nab a slice of the hybrid market, OCZ has launched its RevoDrive Hybrid, which fuses a 100GB SSD to a PCB alongside a 1TB 2.5" hard drive and connects using the PCI Express 2.0 x4 bus. At $500, this solution is priced at a peculiar $0.50/GB. It isn't exactly entry-level but that's significantly less than any SSD.

OCZ Vertex 3 240GB SSD Review
  • Posted April 14, 2011, 6:28 AM by Steven Walton | Filed in TechSpot, Hardware
  • The performance oriented controller used by the Vertex 3 known as the SandForce SF-2281 includes support for the SATA 6Gb/s interface, while boasting read and write speeds of 500MB/s+, a mind blowing figure when compared to previous generation chips.

For now it appears solid state drives will continue to get faster, but not any cheaper. OCZ has set the list price for the Vertex 3 120GB version at $249, while the 240GB version will cost $499. The good news is though, the performance bump is well worth it.
