In brief: What do you do when you need to change the aspect ratio of a video? You can spend hours manually cropping frames, or you can use Adobe's new tool for Premiere Pro called "Auto Reframe," which does all the tedious work for you.

Artificial intelligence is continually making photo and video editing easier. Adobe's Sensei AI already helps take better selfies and can remove unwanted objects from videos.

On Monday, the company announced Auto Reframe — a tool that lets users change aspect ratios for videos while keeping their subject the focus of attention. The Sensei-powered tool for Premiere Pro automatically crops video footage into three different aspect ratios while keeping the action in-frame.

For simple videos with a distinct subject, Auto Reframe works flawlessly. However, when scenes get more complicated with more action going on the tool can falter and lose track of the subject. Fortunately, users can manually edit "key frames" to get the AI back on track (see video).

There are three aspect ratios to chose from — Cinematic (16:9), Square (1:1), and Vertical (9:16).

Using the tool is a pretty straightforward affair. After choosing an aspect ratio, users can drag and drop it onto their subject in a clip. Auto Reframe does the rest by generating motion key frames that focus on the action. Users can also fine-tune shots by choosing how much movement the AI can expect to see — Slow Motion, Default, or Faster Motion.

An "Auto Reframe Sequence" option also allows users to employ the effect when working with multiple clips on a timeline. Not only will it apply the aspect ratio to each clip, but it will also resize the title and other graphics to fit.

Adobe did not mention when Auto Reframe would be available for the masses. It only said that the tool is coming to Premiere Pro sometime this year.

Back in the day Adobe had a great product at a great price. Now, while they do upgrade the products, their mandatory subscription services to get access to these upgrades has become old and worn out and is one of the better reasons I have moved on to other products.

They still have great products and in order to make their products better they need more money.

Programmers don’t work for peanuts, well, at least not the good ones. Sure, if you want cheap programmers from India then yeah you can get away with paying next to nothing but if you want good state side programmers, be prepared to pay.

It is similar to motion tracking technique in after effects, anyway I think using mocha planar tracking is more effective in complex shots. still it is nice Feature

@Cal Jeffrey You said, "Artificial intelligence is continually making photo and video editing easier. Adobe's Sensei AI already helps take BETTER SELFIES, and can remove unwanted objects from videos.".

Animal self awareness is judged by whether or not it recognizes itself in a mirror.

As near as I can tell, this generation is out to prove it's, "the most self aware generation ever", In fact, "it's higher state of being", is probably measured by the number of marijuana dispensaries opening up across the US.

In any event, the invention of the camera , which enabled the advent of the "selfie", is another "giant step forward", in the self awareness ability of Homo flatulensis.

Sadly, our "lofty upward goals", have taken a drastic downward turn, as witnessed by the fact that the hairless ape now needs artificial intelligence to help it stare at itself in the mirror.

As an adjunct to this post, it must be noted that some primitive cultures would not allow their photos to be taken, as their belief was the, "the magic box would steal your soul".

Which, given the number of selfies taken by Kim Kardashian, gives me pause to wonder how many souls she's had stolen, if the new iPhone has a back door to let souls in, or if she actually had a soul to begin with.
