The big picture: Besides being the most luxurious vehicle in the German automaker's lineup, the BMW 7 series has also been home to the company's V12 engine for over three decades. However, the need for an increasing portfolio of EVs means the bragging rights have switched from cylinder counts and horsepower to connectivity, big screens and better mileage. This has led to the new all-electric BMW i7, which features an 8K display in the rear, and a 305-mile EPA range.

BMW offered a teaser of its upcoming i7 sedan, which is expected to be fully revealed next month, with sales to follow later this year. Alongside the gopping kidney grille that's now become a staple of newer models, the i7 also has a party piece for rear passengers.

Called the 'BMW Theatre Screen,' this 31-inch 32:9 ultrawide display folds out of the car's roof liner and streams content at 8K resolution. Combine it with the interior's dynamic ambient lighting and panoramic sunroof with adjustable LEDs, and you'll likely have little to no complaints from those lounging in the back seats.

The BMW i7 will also look noticeably different on the outside from a regular 7 Series. The teasers suggest a bolder, blockier appearance with an illuminated kidney grille and super-thin headlights.

In terms of power, this model is expected to borrow the iX SUV's dual-motor setup and a 100kW battery. BMW has also said that the i7 will be the most powerful 7 Series with an estimated 305 miles of EPA range.

For reference, the high-performance iX M60 variant in the UK is officially rated at 455 kW (619 hp) and starts at about £112,000 (~$147,730), so expect the i7 to be similarly expensive. Also, if the latter's rear panoramic screen isn't big or appealing enough, perhaps your eyes will fancy the 56-inch Hyperscreen inside the 2023 Mercedes EQS.

So real range is 250 miles, 230 if you use AC or its cold out, and under 200 within 5 years as the battery wears out, assuming you are not using the silly 8k screen.

I don't want to scare you, but here is something you can read for ALL the facts:

My toy 2017 Focus EV still has 96.2% battery life left.

EDIT:

It might also interest you to know that even a primitive EV battery will last longer than the average lifespan of the drivetrain in a smoker.
And, you may be shocked at this because it has become conveniently ignored lately, but using the AC greatly reduces fuel mileage in a smoker.

"My focus" Stop. Annecdotal evidence does not prove anything. I could bring up dozens of teslas on ebay that are under 8 years old and have failing batteries to prove my point.

Range doesnt matter nearly as much in ICE vehicles because, since you EV bois always forget this part, an ICE vehicle can be refilled in 2 minutes. Lose some MPG in hot or cold weather? Doesnt stop you from going long distance. EV? Have fun with 2 hour wal mart parking lot tours.

Also, LMFAO at "a primitive EV battery will last longer than the average lifespan of the drivetrain in a smoker". Yeha, sure, a primative EV will last longer then ICE vehicles that run for 20+ years. Sure jan, whatever you say.

And I could bring up just as many, or more, smokers on ebay and YouTube that show blown gasoline engines after as little as a year.

Equally shared shortcomings is not the way to argue a point. No vehicles are perfect. You will learn that when you grow up.

Annecdotal evidence does not prove anything.
True. But thousands of people with the same experience does.
Didn't you know that?

Just quit crying and read the link. Foolishness does not have to be a lifetime sentence. Learn as I have, and you will be better for it. Plus you can cut down on the laughter you bring upon yourself.
