Apple iPhone 7 Plus Review

The DAC, Headphones, and audio file you are listening to determine audio quality. I stated that very clearly. That isn't debatable, it's fact. If any one of those are of low quality then the result is low quality. You quote marks mean nothing because those aren't my words.

"I only worked in sound production for 8 years"

Yeah, because everyone on the internet is an expert. I hear this about every other day.

"Of course it's worth pointing out that dacs will move to the headphones and will be far better than a generic dac in the phone as they will be bespoke but the who am I to say anything"

And how do you come up with that? Do you realise the space and cost requirements of a quality dac? No, low end headphones will weight more, cost more to make, and implement the lowest quality DAC. This is obvious as the low end always minimizes costs. You are forcing extra costs unto every headphone, especially if you want them to sound good. For someone who supposedly worked is sound production for 8 years you don't even know the basic. Go to head-fi and pose the question you just posed to me and then tell them where you worked for 8 years.

"Glad to see that this massive android fanboy can finally understand "

Ok, you are the one coming back here and taking cheap shots after the fact. I've been called an Nvidia fanboy, an Intel Fanboy, an Apple fanboy, an AMD fanboy, whatever company you can name I've probably been called a fanboy. Correlation does not equal causation, just because I defend a product that happens to be under a brand doesn't make me one. Weak people use names instead of an actual argument.

"Also, it might be worth nothing that if android go the same route you will need a USB type c connector, which is heavier, bigger, more expensive and does not transmit analogue therefore requiring evernessince's beloved dac."

So it essence the same thing as the lightning connecter, seeing as they are both digital cables. The big difference being anyone can use USB-C, it is not a proprietary format.

If you knew anything about sound you would know that the DAC is just one small part of what defines sound quality and really these days its more important that its there than what spec it is. Other factors have much more of an effect on sound quality than which DAC you have.

Any headphone or speaker manufacturer who wants a good experience for their listeners will include a custom DAC, in fact many already do. A custom DAC is pretty much always better for any given speaker or monitor, there are exceptions, some people like to put their sound through certain dacs because of a personal preference but typically you get better results with bespoke DACS. Of course it costs more, its not an excersize in money saving. But I dont think you realise how cheap a basic DAC is, yeah they can be expensive but its usually people who dont know anything about audio that buy those sort of products. All it means is that cheap headphones might be maybe £1 or £2 more expensive than they are now but they will also sound considerably better for it.

I DID work in sound production for 8 years, ive done live sound, recorded production and even TV.

You however strike me as exactly the kind of person who would go and pay a lot of money for a DAC and then run a pair of cheap powered speakers off it. In other words, you havent got a clue what you are talking about.

Oh and I agree with you about the USB type C connector, it is a better connector than the lightning port. But if I needed a dongle hanging off my headphones the smaller, lighter lightning adapter IS a better option. I do find it amusing, I never said the type C port was a worse port, just that its preferential to hang a lightning connector from your headphones. Yet you use the opportunity to highlight one of the areas that apple are doing worse in than Android. And you claim you arent a fanboy, ha!
