Apple, iPhone suppliers stock slide amid concern of weaker than expected iPhone X demand

Apple has received a less-than-desirable sales prediction for the first quarter of 2018. A drop in demand for the iPhone X has sent Apple's stock down almost three percent and has also affected many of Cupertino's suppliers.

New estimates for iPhone X sales are showing at least 16 percent fewer units being sold with more drastic cases forecasting nearly 30 percent decreases in sales.

Apple was originally expecting to sell as many as 50 million iPhone Xs but has since cut its own forecasts to just 30 million pieces. Apple is still looking to reach its goal of a $1 trillion valuation but may face tougher competition from Chinese competitors looking to break into US markets.

Even though Apple has hit a small bump in the road with news of declining sales figures, the company is still doing extremely well for the year. During the 2017 calendar year, Apple has grown almost 50 percent and is still one of the most valuable brands.

Investment banking firm Cowen and Company believes Apple did not add enough new technology to the iPhone X to justify its $1,000 price point. More consumers are opting to buy the less expensive iPhone 8 and older models at reduced pricing instead of the flagship iPhone X.

In the upcoming year, Apple may be launching new iPhone models with edge-to-edge displays at lower price points that could attract customers put off by the more expensive iPhone X.

Looks like a lot more people objected to Apple's price point and their lame excuses for slowing down the older phones .....

I think its alot more do to with people realizing they dont need a new phone every year, as well as the "cool" factor of the tech having mostly faded. Apple sets these insane demand expectations without realizing that less and less people care about getting the latest and greatest phones (and there are poeple who care more about headphone jack than brand, but that might just be more my experience).

I know hence why im holding off, I checked out iphone x and a few android phones and looks like no headphone jack is a trend even on android.

I hate how the headphone jack is so widely used yet apple and companies who make android phones think its ok to take it away heck even google removed it from their phones lol

Its especially weird with the Pixel 2 since Google roasted Apple for getting rid of it in Pixel 1 ads. How times have changed.

As to the iPhone X, playing catch up with cheaper Android phones sure doesn't sound like its worth $1000+. Reviewers and the press have dutifully talked it up, but they simply haven't justified the price hike to me.

Apple could sell these for $500 and still make a profit. All of course thanks to the slave labor they get from China.

From what I could tell, they push extra power to begin with and then feel justified in stepping the power down. Since the battery is degrading over the constant recharging, it's closer to the theoretical maximum the battery can output on first impressions. So the performance has to be stepped backwards and yes it's kinda pointless, when they could simply admit they don't need this insane performance lead.

They put themselves in this situation, by boasting such impressive figures that reversing it now would be an admission. So this whole degraded performance is their own fault to begin with. Wanting to look at the charts with yourself at #1 for so long, even though they claim to not care. Now that things are being looked at, it's clearly showing they could have kept performance in check.

What better way to look stupid than when, you painted yourself into a corner with misleading performance. It's real performance now and in a year or two, expect it to be slower when you need to recharge it endlessly. Thus the whole "keeping things updated" being, you have to update and fix the "error" of your design.

I'm using Android and only recently got into using a smartphone. Seeing this happening makes me shrug. Don't design stupidly only to fix it with a patch, that people will notice and you deny until you're caught. That's all I have to say with things, and I'm aware of apps being gamed for trying to fake performance on Android.. but that's another story. ;)
