Assassin's Creed Valhalla could be limited to 30fps on Xbox Series X

Yes I sit only about 3 ft from a 65" and though I can tell the difference between 1080 and 4k I can't tell the difference even that close with 1440 and 4k.

They should take the sweet spot approach and focus on 1440/60
I find it depends on the game with 1440 and 4K. In tomb raider at 1440 I found the character model looked horrible, whereas at 4K it was pristine. In other games like Doom Eternal I can barely notice and happily play at 1440 120 which is TV gaming Nirvana.

People are also not taking improved asset quality into account. Sure, the new consoles could run current games at 4K/60+ with ease.

But just look at this Unreal Engine 5 demo:

I could absolutely see that running at 30 fps on next-gen.

I've seen it and I'm pretty hyped for it. But we should temper our expectations for both the games and the release dates for games that will use UE5. The engine itself is slated for a 2021 release date. Add a minimum of 2 years to that for any decent game to be made.

I mean, this is the UE4 demo Epic showed off on the PS4:

And we've certainly hit or surpassed that target this generation, so I remain optimistic.

Well, Can you imagine DLSS 3.0 in nVidia Ampere ?
they could smoke 4K 60 fps easily.
In the future nvidia migh also invent AI Upscalling so all games can run in higher resolution

But... DLSS is AI upscaling.
And we'll see many types of upscaling techniques that will use AI in one form or another in the future. There are rumors that the next gen consoles could have something like that.

My hope is that we'll maybe see ESRGAN or something similar used in real time, not being tied to a specific hardware vendor.
