Asus ZenBook Pro 14 Review: Two for the price of one

To say there are a ton of laptops out there is an understatement. As is the case with smartphones, within a given segment or budget often there isn't much that differentiates them---other than components and small design changes. But with Asus' latest ZenBook Pro, there's one element that really makes it stand out from the crowd: a touchpad that's also a touchscreen.

A touchpad is supposed to be a touchpad.

It's supposed to be a pointing device if a physical mouse peripheral isn't convenient.

Humans really can't multitask - we only have two eyes - two hands and a limited number of fingers. If we had more appendages and eyes - maybe I could see having a touchscreen display built into my laptop - basically a second screen, but at this point it's just a gimmick.

$1500 is entry RTX laptop cash.

Now I do see that this might be beneficial to people who constantly need to make use of symbols in Office, but other than that...it will probably be something you use once in a while that gets used less and less over time.

Watching Youtube videos on it is OK, but couldn't I still get that accomplished in a small window on my Alienware 17"?

Doesn't that hurt productivity?

It'll be interesting to see if this finds a niche in the market.

I was thinking that this would be more comparable to the new Macbooks with the touch bar, except this one is using a full screen instead. The touch bar can boost efficiency with certain apps astronomically once you learn how to master it. I imagine this will be the same for certain users.

Using a mouse would push me to use this screen as more of a monitoring device, like being able to see myself on camera while streaming, or checking chat logs. I think it's a cool concept, and if it sticks around, I'd be curious to see what the next iterations and advancements bring.

I highly dislike the purist's point of view, as if everything had to be only one way, the old way, with no possible evolution.

Another laptop with no proper page-up and page-down keys and useless half-height cursor keys.
I'm a developer and keyboards like this are pretty much unusable for heavy document/source file editing.

I bought an Asus device about 2 years ago, worked good, looked great, then somewhere near the end of the first years, I get a notice to upgrade my device. So I clicked on it and then all of hell broke loose; it kept re-booting and re-booting.

So I contacted the help desk and they were so un-helpful with their stupid suggestions that in the end I stopped using the device. I got it to stop re-booting with out the help desk but it has problems....
