Avoid Reactivating Vista after fresh install - This used to work for XP?

there was a way to hold onto your activation credentials that were held in two files so that if you had to install xp all over again, you could move the two files back into place and be activated again without all the hassle.

I was wondering if the same thing was possible with Vista?

Right,
I only did it the first install of XP.2nd time didn't even ask for
Serial Number on the package.
Rejected Activation then it disappeared from Start Menu.
