In brief: Slap the Call of Duty moniker on any shooter, even in the saturated Battle Royale genre, and it's expected to snap up a sizeable chunk of players. That's exactly the case with the latest free-to-play Warzone, which saw over 6 million players joining within 24 hours of the game's release.

Contrary to the hype and marketing push behind its yearly releases, Activision's Modern Warfare-based Warzone was a relatively hushed affair that's bound to keep CoD fans busy until (and even after) Treyarch's take on the franchise arrives later this year.

Despite being what is essentially another Battle Royale game, CoD: Warzone lowers the bar of entry by going free-to-play like its main rivals, Apex Legends and Fortnite, while its military, boots on the ground gameplay likely appeals to longtime fans and players looking for a change from Respawn and Epic's comical shooters.

As we came to know earlier this week, the game also features a new 'Plunder' mode for added variety and has interesting twists like 1v1 fights in the Gulag for a free chance of returning to the battlefield. These gameplay mechanics, along with numerous other factors, have resulted in more than 6 million players ending up in Warzone within 24 hours of its release.

This playerbase is likely going to swell over time as more people download the hefty 101GB game, while those looking to acquaint themselves through a quick overview can have a look at jackfrags' impressions on YouTube.

I don't know why every COD game has to have at least 100GB. I give it a month before the hype dials down.

I was seriously about to download before I checked the file size. I probably still will, but, man... 100 Gb? That's like the entire Master Chief Collection.

Probably all of the uncompressed textures. That seems to be the standard anymore, for some reason. I tried it last night, seemed pretty decent. Only thing I thought was weird was when I went to start the game, it was still downloading the textures -- would have thought those would be included in the main download, not an afterthought. But maybe they thought by having the store & the "Buy the full game" option in front of your face for a longer period, you'd be more likely to go ahead & buy it...

I have tried it yesterday and its movement mechanism was not that good so I deleted it, still I really regret that I downloaded 100 GB game for just one day.
there should be solution for such gigantic sizes and I wonder what will haben when 8k become popular

Fallout 4 is only 27GB, but if get the free Upgraded texture DLC pack its another 50GB to a total of 80gbs :O, and I'm not even sure it's worth the difference, but maybe it a 4k higher resolution thing, giving us all these massive downloads.

I disagree. movement is fine. its similar to Pubg. Its not as fast paced as Apex but moverment is fine overall.
Some people just dont take the time to learn things.
While the download is big, I didnt have any issues with it. I have 400gb service so it went by rather quick. Those who dont have good internet will complain the most. In those cases just move onto something else or wait for download to finish.

Stop complaining about the size peps.
If you cant afford a $50 3 tb drive, you shouldn't be interested in any or most new games.
It is only fifty bucks. It is enough to fit all of the games you wanna try or hoping to play one day.
And it is cheap, dirty cheap. I personally recommend HGST ultra-star refurbished drives from Amazon or Newegg, blazing fast, come with extended warranty.

This game has more appeal to me, than other mentioned in the article. I haven't played all the COD SP, especially MP. I remember though some of the tense WW2 sequences in single player campaigns.

The fact that has realistic weapons and amazing graphics for a game at this scale...

The nice treat is that they spent time to actually design the interiors of buildings. For example, division 2 has great environment, but the space feels sparse and flat, because the buildings are just random blocks in the game editor that are scattered around... I haven't noticed this flatness so far in the new COD.
What I really like is that they have tactical aspects into the game, not just go and shoot whatever moves...
